‎Maitland, John‎

‎Notice of the trial of Lieutenant John Maitland, by court - martial, with a full report of the defence‎

‎Reprinted from 1841 edition.NO changes have been made to the original text. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold - outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes than this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN perfect bound, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This book is printed on demand on acid - free paper.‎

‎MALCOLM BARBER‎

‎Trial of the Templars‎

‎London, The Folio Society 2003. 2003, First Edition Thus. Decorative Cloth. Ill.: Many various. Book and slipcase in near fine condition, probably unread. Blood red slipcase, fiery red cloth hardcover with gilt flames adorning front, black and white title on spine. Map of "Templar Houses and Fortresses" on endpapers and pastedowns. Many reproductions of contemporary paintings, photographs of the historical sites, and facsimile documents. When the Templars first rose to power, they were regarded as warriors and guardians of the Christian faith. Over time they began to lose favour, and gained critics of some of their questionable practices, but it was in 1307 when the king of France brought absolutely shocking charges against the Templars with accusations of heresy and sodomy, mounting to almost unbelievable heights. With constant pressure from the Pope and the King, Templars everywhere fell to a literal trial by fire. "The aim of this book is to trace in detail the course of these events, to examine the motivation of the chief participants, and to assess the extent to which the charges brought against them were justified." [Introduction]. Near Fine/No Jacket (as issued).‎
