[Philosophian Fraternity]
Philosophian Fraternity Dedicated to the Friends and Former Members of the Philosophian Society by the Class of 1850

St. Louis: Printed at the Republican Office 1850. 16 pages. 7 x 4¼ inches. Removed pamphlet without wrappers. Mild staining. Very Good.

List of members guidelines and goals of this McKendree College fraternity. As explained within In 1837 “the Philosophian Society was founded by seven young gentlemen students of McKendree College having for its object the mutual improvement of its members in rhetorical attainments and in scientific literary and moral pursuits. The Society continued in successful operation under that organization until the end of the collegiate year eighteen hundred and forty-five occupying an elevated situation among her sister associations. During the year of the partial suspension of the Institution the various possessions of the Society were almost entirely lost or destroyed and in October eighteen hundred and forty seven when reorganized by the constitutional number of Honorary members it had before it a more difficult path than the untrodden wilderness. After three years of arduous labor on the part of its members resulting in brilliant success it is enabled to lay before its friends the following items of general information in regard to its various departments.â€
unknown
