H. Srikanth
From Paris Commune to Perestroika [Hardcover]
Marxism, much acclaimed by followers of Marx as a revolutionary philosophy and a scientific guide to action was attack from time to time by critics from different angles. The study aims at analyzing the response of some eminent Marxist intellectuals of different Marxist schools of thought in the West to the stand taken by the critics of orthodox Marxist view of capitalist state. While reviewing the contributions of some important Marxism schools of thought, the book attempts to critically evaluate some of the recent Marxist interpretations of the post-War developments in capitalist, socialist and the Third World countries. Contemporary phenomena such as the dynamics of the state in the late capitalist societies, prospects of development in the Third World and the socialist content of the Russian ‘Perestroika’ and Chinese ‘modernisation’ have also come under scrutiny. A compulsory reading for all those who want to understand the Marxists, response to the confusions created by the theories and practices of the ‘non-Marxists’ and the so-called ‘Marxists;. Harvey Miller. Ancient Mosaics and Wallpaintings
Hardback, 447 p., 99 b/w ill. + 156 colour ill., 22 x 28,5. ISBN 9781872501574. The 132 drawings catalogued here, many on a large scale and highly coloured, document most of the major examples of ancient Roman pictorial art known to seventeenth-century Rome. The 132 drawings catalogued document most of the major examples of ancient Roman pictorial art known to seventeenth-century Rome. They include early finding such as the "Aldobrandini Wedding", the Nile mosaic from Palestrina, tha marble pictures from the Basilica of Junius Bassus, and later finds such as the Harbour Landscape (found in 1668) and the Tomb of Nasonii (1674). Detailed accounts are given of the discoveries, and a general introduction assesses the significance of the Cassiano assemblage within the wider context of contemporary antiquarian interest in ancient painting, its collectors and copyists. Cataogue entries describe and discuss the drawings in graet detail, relating them to the original mosaics and wallpaintings as they survive in their present state of preservation. All drawings catalogued are reproduced, mostly on a large scale and mostly in full colour. They are frequently accompanied by illustrations, also in colour, of the ancient originals. H.A. Barari
In Sun and Shower [Hardcover]
A pot-pourri of the author's distant memories, this book focuses on his early life at his native place Vikrampur in pre-partition East Bengal, now Bangladesh. The author showcases the pristine glory of vikrampur, which in more recent times has been the home of many illustrious sons of Bengal. Besides being a deep study of the history and the cultural and spiritual traditions of that place, the book also highlights some of the less known facets of the local socio-cultural scene to make sure that these do not get obliterated for ever from our collective memory. The authors disagreement with some of the points made in the nobal laureate Amartya Sen analysis of the Bengal Famine (1943) should attract notice in academic circles. About The Author:- H.A. Barari, Former Director, Governor of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The Title 'In Sun and Shower written/authored/edited by H.A. Barari', published in the year 2004. AEB 67241. ~Librarium of The Hague offers the largest and finest collection of Egyptological offprint monographs in the rare book market. With the acquisition in recent years of multiple Egyptological libraries those of Prof. Herman te Velde; Prof. Mathieu Heerma van Voss Prof. Baudouin van de Walle; Prof. Michel Malaise; Prof. Herman De Meulenaere; Egyptologist Jacobus Visser and former Trustee of the Egypt Exploration Society Stewart Dale White we now hold several thousands of rare offprint monographs which were collected over many years by these scholars. Very limited in number when originally issued and fragile by nature most are by now practically extinct and the scarce survivors are much sought after. We took upon ourselves to collate catalogue and identify each item in accordance with Beinlich-Seeber or Annual Egyptological Bibliography in the hope that this collection will prove useful for scholars and collectors alike.
