Abstract: One of the most interesting issues in Urartian archaeology is the development of a defensive network. The majority of Urartian fortresses have never been excavated though. This article provides an overview of defensive sites with preserved defensive gates in Iranian North-Western Azerbaijan and eastern Turkey. Other parts of the Near East should be studied, but no possibility is offered today.
