‎Première édition de la traduction française, ornée d'une carte dépliante de la route entre Moscou et Pékin. L'ambassadeur et médecin écossais Jean Bell d'Antermony (1691-1780) voyagea de 1715 à 1738 , pour le compte de Pierre Ier de Russie à Pékin ,mais aussi à Ispahan et Derbert en Perse, puis à Constantinople . « Ce voyage rectifie beaucoup de positions géographiques très-erronées, qui s'étoient glissées dans les cartes des pays visités par ce voyageur. On trouve aussi des notions utiles en botanique et en zoologie» (Boucher de La Richarderie, t. I, pp. 196-197). L'édition contient également le Journal de la résidence de M. Lange, Agent de Pierre I, à la cour de Pékin, en 1721 & 1722 et le contenu ses Négociations (t. II, pp. 125 -362). Lorenz Lange faisait partie de l’ambassade de Russie en Chine , il était chargé de rétablir les relations commerciales avec la Chine , très profitables pour la Russie. Exemplaire un peu court de marge en tête mais sans atteinte au texte, infime travail de vers dans la marge inférieure des premiers feuillets, à peine visible ; cerne de mouillure claire dans la marge inférieure des cinq premiers feuillets, minuscule manque de papier en pied des deux premiers feuillets (feuillet blanc et titre).‎

‎INTÉRESSANTES RELATIONS DE VOYAGES À CARACTÈRE SCIENTIFIQUE, dues à Pierre BELON (1517-1564). Il s'agit de la SEULE EDITION de ce texte imprimée en lettres rondes. Elle est illustrée d'un portrait, de 42 gravures sur bois dans le texte et de 2 cartes à pleine-page (Abydus & Alexandrie). MANQUE, comme souvent, la carte dépliante des îles de Lemnos et du mont Athos qui n'apparait pas dans les autres éditions. Pierre BELON, célèbre naturaliste français, dont les travaux sur les poissons et les oiseaux sont à l'origine de l'anatomie comparée, rapporte avec beaucoup d'agrément des observations intéressantes sur les pays qu'il visite et les curiosités qu'il rencontre, qu'il s'agisse de la faune, de la flore, ou des habitants. Pierre BELON rêvait d'un voyage scientifique en Orient. Grâce à la protection et l'appui financier du Cardinal de Tournon, il put quitter la France en 1546. Il visita successivement la Grèce, l'île de Crète, Constantinople, l'île de Lemnos, la Thrace, la Macédoine, l'Asie Mineure, les îles de Chio, de Samos, de Rhodes, l'Egypte, la Palestine et la Syrie. Ce voyage, qui dura trois années, inspira la verve de Ronsard, pour lequel il prit les proportions et l'importance d'une exploration générale du globe. A son retour (1549), Belon consigna les résultats de son voyage dans un OUVRAGE REMARQUABLE, "Les Observations de plusieurs singularitez et choses mémorables [etc.]", qu'il publia en 1553 à Paris, chez Gilles Corrozet. L'auteur y donne des figures de plusieurs espèces d'oiseaux, de quadrupèdes et de reptiles (cinq gravures de serpents) ; il y représente la civette, l'ichneumon (rat de pharaon), le caméléon, le mouflon, un singe appelé "tartarin", le crocodile, le tatou, la girafe, etc. On y trouve, en outre, des détails curieux et exacts sur la géographie, sur les mœurs et les coutumes des peuples des pays qu'il a visités. Son ouvrage était, à l'époque de sa parution, l'OUVRAGE FRANCAIS LE PLUS DOCUMENTE SUR LE LEVANT. (Graesse, I, 331 - Brunet, I, 762 - Larousse, 524). Preziosi's name is now little known except to specialists, but in the period 1840-70 he was by far the most reknowned artist in Constantinople. Does a non-core group pursue a certain pattern of collective political behavior, or does it have the ability to alter it through struggle with other groups by calculating the existing opportunities and restrictions? This book addresses these important questions by focusing on the history of political representation of the Muslim-Turkish minority in Greece and the Greek-Orthodox minority in Turkey, two communities whose rights are linked to each other via the "reciprocity principle" written in the Lausanne Treaty, signed by two countries that have long-lasting conflicts. Drawing on presentation of related political history, systematic coding of parliamentary debates and works, minority and mainstream newspapers, and elite interviews, the author analyzes and explains ignored linkages between institutions, bilateral relations between Greece and Turkey, and the role of external factors that enable or constrain minority communities access to political life. This study which adopts a historical institutionalism approach and, by integrating theory of both comparative politics and international relations, shows how the minority groups political participation and the effectiveness of their representation has been determined by the triangle of the two states choice of nationalism, reciprocity and Europeanization policies, mainly argues that internal factors such as groups capability for competition and institutional features of the political system in the host-state mostly override states bilateral relations with the kin-state and international factors. As a result, for the Greek and Turkish case, the host-states generally pursue the policy of state-controlled involvement of their minorities in the political life, where the existence of the threatening kin-state and minority groups strong demographic features lead to avoidance of full assimilation and exclusion from political representation.‎
