ill., br. Il 22 agosto del 1944 da Pontemazzori la giovane Leila Farnocchia scese a Camaiore per rinnovare la carta di identità. Con la madre, ferita a causa di un bombardamento, era sfollata in collina e ogni giorno si recava in città per prendere oggetti a casa e fare la spesa. Si fermò in via di Mezzo a guardare i manifesti del cinema. Indossava una gonna pantalone corta e sulle spalle aveva un tascapane. La conoscevano come la maestrina seppur non insegnasse. Ad un tratto passò un tedesco in bicicletta che prima le urlò di andar via, poi si fermò e le si avventò addosso. Con lui una giovane prostituta al servizio degli occupanti tedeschi. Catturata venne spinta prima in casa del lattaio - confiscata dai nazisti - poi caricata su una automobile e condotta a Nozzano, dove, presso la scuola elementare le SS avevano creato una terribile prigione dove si consumarono indicibili torture e decine di assassinii. Lì i tedeschi ne fecero un corpo morto prima di ucciderla. Questo libro ricostruisce attraverso gli atti processuali, la storia di Leila Farnocchia e delle due ragazze, che si prostituivano con i tedeschi e che dopo la guerra furono portate a processo.

Prendendo come punto di osservazione la rappresentazione della politica statunitense durante la guerra fredda e negli anni immediatamente successivi alla sua fine, questo volume ricostruisce la storia del Movimento Sociale Italiano, indagando anche come il Msi abbia accolto la cultura americana veicolata attraverso il cinema, la musica e i mezzi di comunicazione di massa. Giovandosi di documentazione archivistica, sono stati ricostruiti anche gli sporadici e infruttuosi tentativi operati dai dirigenti del partito per istituire rapporti con la politica statunitense. Attraverso lo specchio americano, il libro restituisce continuità, discontinuità e differenziazioni della cultura politica del Msi dalle origini alla nascita di Alleanza Nazionale.
