Con la psicoanalisi di Freud sembra davvero realizzarsi una delle aspirazioni più antiche della filosofia: quella di ricercare e mettere a disposizione degli uomini un'efficace medicina per curare i mali dell'anima e per raggiungere la felicità possibile. La riflessione e la pratica filosofica hanno infatti sempre tratto la loro motivazione più profonda dall'esperienza del limite che, nelle forme del dolore, della sofferenza, dell'ingiustizia e della morte, le persone si trovano di fronte nelle loro situazioni di vita. Il rapporto di Freud con la filosofia si è sempre nutrito di una profonda ambivalenza: da un lato la confessione di un'irresistibile attrazione; dall'altro quasi la necessità di rassicurare se stesso e gli altri su una propria "incapacità costituzionale" alla pura speculazione e sulla sua ferma volontà di sottrarsi, proprio lui, formidabile affabulatore, al fascino delle narrazioni filosofiche. Eppure, a oggi, la creatura intellettuale di Freud, in attesa degli sviluppi di alcune sue intuizioni che sembrano promettere le neuroscienze, appare sempre più destinata a trovare riparo e conforto nel grembo ampio e inclusivo della filosofia.

La filosofia di Lanza del Vasto. Un ponte tra Occidente ed Oriente
br. Lanza del Vasto (1901-1981) è stato studente a Pisa (1922-1928), (negli stessi anni in cui lo fu Aldo Capitini), dove si è laureato in Filosofia e dove ebbe la sua prima conversione; la seconda fu quando, nel 1938, restando cattolico, si pose al servizio di Gandhi, venendo da lui chiamato Shantidas (servitore di Pace). Dall'India ritornò per fondare delle Comunità sul modello gandhiano (Comunità dell'Arca), che si sono poi diffuse in vari paesi d'Europa e del mondo. Per quasi trent'anni ha insegnato ovunque una sua maniera specifica di concepire la nonviolenza e con essa un cristianesimo rinnovato; il tutto all'interno di una particolare concezione filosofica elaborata durante la giovinezza. Questo pensiero filosofico fu oggetto della sua tesi di laurea pisana, nel 1928, e venne da lui rielaborato per tutta la vita intrecciando sistematicamente metafisica, teologia, etica ed estetica. È stato dato infine alle stampe con il titolo "La Trinitè Spirituelle" (1971). Il 26-27 gennaio 2007 si è svolto a Pisa un convegno che per la prima volta ha valorizzato il Lanza del Vasto filosofo, dopo che il Lanza del Vasto artista, nonviolento e teologo ha già avuto una sua attenzione da parte del mondo accademico. È risultata una filosofia che unisce strettamente pensiero e pratica di vita, e che, nel panorama del XX secolo, è sicuramente originale per aver superato la divisione tra Occidente ed Oriente, mediante una riflessione profonda sui temi fondamentali della filosofia dei due mondi.

Outstanding sepia tone portrait of Dragonette in floor-length gown standing in front of a stuccoed wall a large oil painting of her to the side. In a dark portion at lower left she handsomely inscribes and signs in white ink making for superb contrast: "For: / Arnold Gates -- / Thanks you for / your New Year Wishes -- / Gratefully yours / Jessica Dragonette." br. Il nichilismo: il concetto più frainteso della storia. Chi vuole leggere un libro intitolato "Il nichilismo" sa che non si troverà di fronte un messale per la domenica. Tutti i testi che si occupano di questo argomento, infatti, ruotano attorno alla "morte di Dio". Proprio al contrario questo libro, facendo qualche passo indietro, non si chiede tanto e preliminarmente perché Dio muore, ma perché Dio nasce: qui la sua originalità. Se gli dèi, come le filosofie ottimiste, socratiche, edificanti, non sono stati che "rimedi", questo testo si interroga sul "rispetto a che" essi siano stati rimedi. La finitezza e, più in concreto, la mortalità dell'uomo, è la risposta. Esso sottotitola: "Dalla sventura all'opportunità", alludendo al fatto che dopo il tramonto di tutti i valori tradizionali, convenzionali e supremi, vissuto con sgomento e disorientamento, è giunto il momento che tale naufragio cominci a lavorare per noi.
