Poeta indefinibile, scrittore anarchico, viaggiatore irrequieto, Artaud (autore di scritti che, anche in Italia, hanno fatto scuola) venne recluso per nove anni, dal 1937 al 1946, in manicomio. Sottoposto a decine di elettroshock, usato come cavia, monitorato nei suoi comportamenti quasi fosse una bestia rara, e infine rilasciato su pressante richiesta di Picasso e Mirò, Artaud ci ha lasciato alcune tra le più sconcertanti e lucide invettive contro la medicina e la psichiatria moderne. Per contribuire a fare un po' di chiarezza su questa vicenda - vicenda spesso mitizzata, ma ancor più di frequente mal compresa - Sylvère Lotringer, professore alla Columbia University con la passione per le interviste e le ricerche sul campo, si rimette sulle tracce dello scrittore marsigliese, incontrando e intervistando, nel corso di un lavoro durato molti anni, gli psichiatri che si occuparono e, a modo loro, operarono sul "caso Artaud". Il risultato è sorprendente: dati, documenti, racconti farseschi e aneddoti inverosimili si fondono in una scrittura leggera e accattivante, ma al tempo stesso impietosa anche contro i numerosi adepti che, al pari degli psichiatri, vedevano in Artaud un caso esemplare da ammirare, curare forse, ma soprattutto da "venerare" e sfruttare: "Erano tutti matti", si legge nel finale, "questi fanatici di Artaud".

Emilio Ghione, cineasta e divo, è l'eroe notturno del primo cinema italiano. Za-la-Mort è il suo personaggio emblema, incarnazione del mito popolare dell'apache: "buono" e "malvagio", abitante ambiguo e irredimibile dei bassifondi urbani. Una figura e un nome che, dagli anni Dieci del secolo scorso, hanno percorso tra oblio e carsiche riapparizioni la cultura e l'immaginario del nostro paese. brossura Il volume uscì col contributo del Ministero dei Beni Culturali in occasione del 2° centenario della nascita di Giacomo Leopardi (1998). Le ricerche effettuate dall'autrice negli archivi di Parma, Modena, Bologna, Genova e La Spezia, alla ricerca di fonti inedite, hanno permesso di rivisitare alcuni momenti della biografia di Giacomo Leopardi e dei rapporti del Poeta con la politica attraverso i legami con Giacomo Tommasini e con il suo gruppo, di medici e non medici, amici del Poeta, ma anche patrioti, carbonari e poi mazziniani, che vissero coraggiosamente il loro ideale, come Ferdinando Maestri, Pietro Giordani, Paolo Toschi, Michele Colombo, Giuseppe Taverna oltre al gruppo di amici del Gabinetto Vieusseux a Firenze. In particolare l'autrice ha ricostruito l'ambiente bolognese al tempo in cui vi soggiornò il Leopardi dal luglio del 1825 e dai primi incontri coi giovani studenti, come lo spezzino Marco Colombo. Grazie al rapporto con Bologna, con i suoi abitanti e con l'ambiente di casa Tommasini il Leopardi si allontanò dalle posizioni legittimiste e reazionarie del padre Monaldo ed elesse quella dei Tommasini come sua seconda famiglia. Fu a loro ed al padre che il poeta indirizzò le sue ultime lettere da Napoli.

Characters in the opera include Amasis King of Egypt Béréel his servant Hemblond a steward at the palace Ali guardian of the Temple of Venus Rhodope a courtesan Nofré her servant the Pharoah and various additional servants courtesans etc. Characters in the ballet include Reine Beauté Le Prince charmant Le Reine des Joies La Reine des Douleurs Les Caprices Les Illusions Les Rêves les Joies Les Désenchantements and Les Wresses. The action takes place in Memphis Egypt ancient capital of Aneb-Hetch the original name of Lower Egypt in 500 B.C. With notation in black; part identifications performance notes and occasional notation in red; and text in green ink. With descriptions of each act and the ballet preceding music. Binding worn rubbed and bumped; cloth to lower stained and abraided at upper portion. Some leaves very slightly trimmed at upper and outer edges often affecting pagination but just occasionally very slightly touching text; name preceding Durey's name on title erased. An unpublished and unrecorded opera. Lovreglio was a composer conductor and musicologist. Born in Naples grandson of the flautist and composer Donato Lovreglio 1841-1907 he died in Nice. Lovreglio played the violin at La Scala under Toscanini from 1917-1919 at which time he emigrated to France teaching at the Collège Parc Impérial in Nice from 1940-1945; among his students was the Armenian composer Levon Arami Astvatsatrian born 1922. He wrote two operas three ballets stage music two masses and symphonic and chamber music. The present work is not included in Lovreglio's works list in Wikipedia. Perhaps my recollection is inaccurate. He was playing behind his brother Willie and when the brother and partner had played their second Freddie's ball flew over their heads and lighted on the long narrow table-land which there crosses the Links. Freddie on approaching the hole could not find his ball and I think gave up the hole and then found his ball about "hole-high." The day was of a light frost brilliantly sunny and with the faintest flicker of air no breeze. I remember seeing Mr. Tait measuring the distance to the place where the ball was found and I think the whole extent was about 350 yards the "carry" being about 250 yards. " ; FINE. RICHARD COBDEN 1804-1865 was an English manufacturer and Radical and Liberal statesman associated with two major free trade campaigns the Anti-Corn Law League and the Cobden-Chevalier Treaty. As a young man Cobden was a successful commercial traveller who became co-owner of a highly profitable calico printing factory in Manchester a city with which he would become strongly identified. However he soon found himself more engaged in politics and his travels convinced him of the virtues of free trade anti-protection as the key to better international relations. In 1838 he and John Bright founded the Anti-Corn Law League aimed at abolishing the unpopular Corn Laws which protected landowners' interests by levying taxes on imported wheat thus raising the price of bread. As a Member of Parliament from 1841 he fought against opposition from the Peel ministry and abolition was achieved in 1846. Another free trade initiative was the Cobden-Chevalier Treaty of 1860 promoting closer interdependence between Britain and France. This campaign was conducted in collaboration with John Bright and French economist Michel Chevalier and succeeded despite Parliament's endemic mistrust of the French. The COBDEN CLUB was a political gentlemen's club in London founded in 1866 for believers in Free Trade doctrine and named in honour of Richard Cobden who had died the year before. 8vo.
