The best and rarest of the Stenberg posters. From CineMaterial: The Stenberg brothers Vladimir 1899-1982 and Georgii 1900-1933 were Soviet artists and designers. While born in Moscow both remained Swedish citizens until 1933 because their father was a Swede. The innovative visual aspects of their posters included a distortion of perspective elements from Dada photomontage an exaggerated scale a sense of movement and a dynamic use of color and typography. Their artwork was frequently based on stills from the films. Radical even today the posters by the brothers working together were realized within the nine-year period from 1924 to 1933 the year Georgii died at age 33. His motorcycle hit a truck a few months after the brothers had become Russian citizens. Waterloo e la definitiva caduta di Napoleone, deluso dall'atteggiamento della Francia della Restaurazione nei confronti dell'imperatore in esilio, il trentaquattrenne Stendhal decise di scriverne una biografia, cui lavorò a più riprese a Milano fra il 1817 e il 1818, ma che lasciò incompiuta, ferma agli accadimenti del 1815. La Vita di Napoleone è ben lontana dal rigore documentario e dall'oggettività degli storici di professione, ma ha il pregio della vivacità e dello stile avvincente di chi nel narrare le imprese militari e gli episodi della vita privata del grande generale prende sempre le mosse da un fatto concreto, da un aneddoto ascoltato dal vivo. L'aspetto più affascinante di questo resoconto sta nel fatto che la più importante personalità politica del tempo è giudicata da un testimone diretto degli avvenimenti destinato a diventare un grande scrittore. La biografia di Napoleone è anche, in qualche misura, l'autobiografia di Stendhal: un congedo dalla giovinezza, un omaggio ai propri ardenti ideali bonapartisti, il rimpianto di un'epoca eroica irrimediabilmente perduta. Number 130 in the Modern Library Series. The Red Badge of Courage is a war novel by American author Stephen Crane 1871–1900. Taking place during the American Civil War the story is about a young private of the Union Army Henry Fleming who flees from the field of battle. Overcome with shame he longs for a wound a "red badge of courage" to counteract his cowardice. When his regiment once again faces the enemy Henry acts as standard-bearer.<br />Although Crane was born after the war and had not at the time experienced battle first-hand the novel is known for its realism. He began writing what would become his second novel in 1894 using various contemporary and written accounts such as those published previously by Century Magazine as inspiration. It is believed that he based the fictional battle on that of Chancellorsville; he may also have interviewed veterans of the 124th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment commonly known as the Orange Blossoms. Initially shortened and serialized in newspapers in December 1895 the novel was published in full in October 1895. Nella metà dell'Ottocento è lei che anima a Parigi un salotto letterario e politico frequentato dai maggiori intellettuali del tempo. Dopo la separazione dal marito, il conte d'Agoult, sarà scrittrice prolifica e gran viaggiatrice in compagnia del compositore Franz Liszt; da lui avrà tre figli e la seconda, Cosima, futura moglie di Richard Wagner, sarà ideatrice del famoso teatro di Bayreuth. Da testimone privilegiata, Marie racconta in prima persona le giornate rivoluzionarie del 1848 che infiammarono Parigi e avranno ripercussioni in molti paesi d'Europa. Le sue pagine sono un documento storico di grande valore, scritto nel clamore di una rivoluzione che dapprima sembrò non violenta e simbolicamente efficace, ma presto si trasformò in altro. Vi si trovano i momenti salienti della ribellione, con al centro i loro protagonisti: Luigi Bonaparte, Buchez, Thiers, Lamartine, Girardin, ma anche gli uomini e le donne del popolo di Parigi e di tutte le altre nazioni coinvolte, tra cui l'Italia dove spicca la figura di Mazzini, amico e corrispondente dell'autrice. Si va dai giorni lenti e rigidi della formazione dell'opposizione al governo, pieni di discussioni politiche e di 'banchetti', a quelli impegnati e veloci delle barricate, sino all'inevitabile spargimento di sangue. L'autrice entra nella discussione pubblica sull'economia e sulla politica, cita i giornali e la stampa dell'epoca...
