A nice image with many interesting architectural details a host of carriage drivers horses people in the park and the mast of a ship visible down the street in the harbor. Albumen and silver salts on paper titled in negative "Place d'Armes Montreal" at bottom right. Photo measures 7.5 x 9 inches wide mounted on card measuring 7.5 x 9.25 inches wide. Photo with some fading mostly along bottom edge near title card mount slightly curved with browning verso. McCord Museum has this image in their collection also unsigned as Object Number II-41752 and date it 1876. Wm. Notman unknown

Three 19th c. photographs of Niagara Falls together creating a virtual panoramic view which includes both the American Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Photos are titled in negative "920 - Horse-Shoe Falls From Canadian Side Niagara" albumen and silver salts print on paper 6 x 9.5 inches wide mounted onto 6.25 x 9.75 inch wide card "923 - Horse-Shoe Falls From Goat Island Niag." albumen and silver salts print on paper 6 x 9.5 inches wide mounted onto 6.25 x 9.75 inch wide card and "931 - American Falls. From Goat Island Niag." gelatin silver chloride print on paper 6-7/8 x 9-1/4 inches wide mounted onto 7-1/8 x 9-1/2 inch wide card. The silver chloride print has some silver mirroring near edges a barely discernible three inch vertical wrinkle at bottom center from original mounting card mount slightly curled verso w. browning. The two albumen photos both have fading near the edges card mount slightly curled with some browning. We found a similar view at the McCord Museum "American Falls from Goat Island Niagara ON about 1870 - VIEW-932" but could not locate this view no. 931. The photo of "Horse-Shoe Falls From Canadian Side Niagara" dates about 1870 according to the McCord catalogue and "923 - Horse-Shoe Falls From Goat Island Niag." being just three views later would date about the same. Studio Portraits Showing the Vibrant African American Community in the Miami Suburb of Overtown
<p><em><strong>Silver prints 24; Each 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches; Some with "Nu Way Photo Shoppe" stamp verso one with Hicks Photo Studio embossed credit stamp some with subject identification recto or verso.</strong></em></p><p>Collection of real photo postcard studio-portraits of the African American community of Miami Florida in the 1920s-40s.</p><p>Eighteen of the photographs are from the "Nu Way Photo Shoppe" a commercial studio located at 939 N.W. 2nd Avenue in the Overtown neighborhood of Miami.The firm was opened by David Jenkins in the early 1940s and catered to a Black clientele. A 1942 issue of "The Crisis" advertises Jenkins' work in Overtown and notes that many of the photographs illustrating the issue were shot by his firm. Included in the collection are portraits of two young women posed proudly in her graduation uniform an identified soldier alongside his sister dapper men in pinstripe suits two-tone shoes and panama hats and equally sharp-dressed women.</p><p>There are six other photographs from other Miami-area studios. One of a woman seated has an embossed stamp for "Hicks Studio." Run by proprietor James E. Hicks the Hicks Studio was also located in Overtown at 225 N.W. 8th Street and is mentioned in the same issue of "The Crisis." Also included are a fun pair of photos showing a coolly-posed man in an all white suit and a second image showing him with a woman elegantly-clad in all white as well. There are also two photographs in front of the same tropical-backdrop one of a man dressed in a suit with tails holding a cane and bowler and the other of a man and woman. One of the last two photos show a woman in lavish evening wear and the other shows a couple in more conservative attire.</p><p>The second-oldest continuously inhabited Miami-area neighborhood after Coconut Grove Overtown is located just northwest of downtown. The area was originally settled in the late 19th-century by African American laborers who worked on the construction of the Florida East Coast Railway. Originally known as "Colored Town" it was one of the few places in Miami where black residents were allowed to live. During the early 20th-century Overtown became a thriving cultural center for Miami's black community with numerous businesses restaurants and nightclubs built primarily along Northwest 2nd Avenue where the Nu-Way Photo Shoppe was located. Its thriving Jazz scene earned Overtown the nickname "Little Harlem."</p><p>In the 1960s Overtown was largely demolished to make way for the construction of Interstate 95 which cut through the heart of the neighborhood. Many homes and businesses were destroyed and the highway effectively cut Overtown off from downtown Miami and the rest of the city. Today revitalization efforts are in place including the restoration of the neighborhood's historic Lyric Theatre.</p>

Studio di putti
Carboncino e matita misure: mm 165 x 225 Pittore italiano del quale si hanno poche notizie, fu attivo soprattutto nel Comasco a metà dell’Ottocento. Nel 1857 affrescò il battistero nella Basilica del SS. Crocifisso in Como; altre sue opere si trovano nel battistero di S. Fedele a Como e nelle chiese parrocchiali di Casasco, Pellio Superiore e Castiglione d’Intelvi. A Nesso nella Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo, nell’area presbiterale si trovano dipinti raffiguranti la Consegna delle chiavi a san Pietro, la Disputa di san Paolo nell’Areopago e la Trinità con gli Evangelisti realizzati nel 1864. In questo foglio, che reca la tracce di quadratura per definire le posizione reciproche delle figure, vengono rappresentati tre putti a figura intera. Sono colti stanti in pose ed atteggiamenti differenti; quello di sinistra di profilo ma con il busto e il volto rivolti verso lo spettatore, diversi ripensamenti dell'artista alla ricerca dell'esatta posizione del braccio destro forse pensato per tenere uno strumento. Il putto centrale è colto frontalmente, con la gamba sinistra avanti rispetto l'altra, fissa lo spettatore e sembra, con il gesto della mano sinistra protesa in avanti, lo stia invitando. Il putto a destra è di profilo, molti sono i ripensamenti di braccia e volto, sembra tenere tra le mani un flauto. Disegno eseguito su cartoncino ocra. Ottimo stato di conservazione.

Matita misure: mm 311 x 235 Pittore italiano del quale si hanno poche notizie, fu attivo soprattutto nel Comasco a metà dell’Ottocento. Nel 1857 affrescò il battistero nella Basilica del SS. Nel foglio viene rappresentata una figura stante, colta frontalmente e piegata leggermente in avanti. L'uomo non è indagato nel volto, lasciato allo stato di abbozzo, l'autore si concentra sullo studio dei movimenti della veste. Questa tunica avvolge completamente il soggetto e cade pesante sul suo corpo; il braccio sinistro piegato alla vita regge parte della veste lasciando così visibili le caviglie e i piedi nudi. Attraverso una fitta intersezione di linee si vengono a creare giochi chiaroscurali che rendono tangibile il tessuto. La figura nella sua maestosa ieraticità sembra una scultura di un filosofo o un magistrato romano. Disegno eseguito su carta bianca spessa. Ottimo stato di conservazione.
