Minor shelf/edge wear to black cloth boards with silver titles and green accents - corners bumped. Moderate shelf/edge wear rubbing and chipping to scarce and thin DJ - now in mylar. Previous owner name and date on FFEP. All other pages are clean and unmarked except for pg 162 which has a small stain in the textblock margin. Textblock edges show a small faint stain as well. Photographic endpapers. 28 chapters and many photographs 2 page spread show 21 bullets recovered from game animals to compare effectiveness at different ranges and bullet weights. The finest gun writer of the 20th century Elmer Keith. Elmer Merrifield Keith March 8 1899 – February 14 1984 was an Idaho rancher firearms enthusiast and author. Keith was instrumental in the development of the first magnum revolver cartridge the .357 Magnum as well as the later .44 Magnum and .41 Magnum cartridges credited by Roy G. Jinks as "the father of big bore handgunning." Keith was a prolific writer writing both books and magazine columns. During the 1950s and 1960s he was especially well known for his regular monthly columns he wrote for Guns & Ammo magazine and American Rifleman typically exploring the performance of the latest new gun offerings especially those firing large heavy bullets pushed to high velocities. Keith was instrumental in the development of various wildcat cartridges a few of which were later adopted as factory rounds. This is still the definitive book on rifles for large game. He was no fan of small calibers for medium game and would not suffer fools that had no practical experience in hunting. Riling 2551 Very respectable vintage copy in DJ. Aufgrund des ausdrucksstark-dynamischen Zeichenstrichs möglicherweise frühe Arbeit der Künstlerin. Zudem hat das Blatt, da Kerkovius nur selten mit dem Bleistift arbeitete - die Pastelltechnik war ihr Gebiet -, einen besonderen Reiz.‎

‎Ida Kerkovius zählt sicher zu den renommiertesten deutschen Künstlerinnen des 20. Jahrhunderts. 1899 begann sie ihre künstlerische Ausbildung an einer privaten Malschule in ihrer Geburtsstadt. 1902 Umzug nach Dachau, um an der privaten Malschule von A. Hölzel (1853-1934) zu studieren. 1908 Studium in Berlin an der Zeichen- und Malschule von A. Mayer und Übersiedelung nach Stuttgart, wo Hölzel seit 1906 an der Kunstakademie lehrte. Nachfolgend wurde sie seine Meisterschülerin und 1911-1914 seine Assistentin mit eigenem Meisteratelier. 1915-1917 unterrichtete sie Hanna Beckker vom Rath (1893-1983), ihre spätere freundschaftlich verbundene Förderin und Sammlerin. 1920-1923 Studium am Bauhaus in Weimar, wo sie bei den für ihr weiteres Schaffen bestimmenden Künstlern J. Itten (1888-1967), P. Klee (1879-1940) und W. Kandinsky (1866-1944) studierte und u.a. die Weberei erlernte. Ab 1925 Reisen nach Paris, Norditalien und in die Schweiz. Nach 1933 wurde sie von den Nationalsozialisten als ?entartet? diffamiert und erhielt Ausstellungsverbot. 1935-1939 Reisen durch Mittel- und Osteuropa, anschließend Rückkehr nach Stuttgart, wo sie sich zurückgezogen weiterhin der Malerei und Bildweberei widmete. Bomben zerstörten ihr Atelier und damit einen Großteil ihrer Arbeiten. Nach 1945 unternahm sie weitere Reisen nach Südfrankreich, an den Gardasee und nach Ischia. 1954 wurde ihr das Bundesverdienstkreuz Erster Klasse verliehen, 1958 folgte die Ernennung zur Professorin. Sie wurde Ehrenmitglied der Staatlichen Akademie der bildenden Künste in Stuttgart sowie Ehrenvorstandsmitglied des Deutschen Künstlerbundes. Obwohl ihre letzten Jahre von schwerer Krankheit gezeichnet waren, war sie weiterhin künstlerisch tätig.‎

(ligiert). 14,2:20,7 cm, rundum auf Untersatz montiert, rechte obere Ecke leicht beschädigt. Provenienz: Sammlung L. Blucke, Chemnitz/Dresden. Die Figur des Faust ist angelehnt an J.H. Naekes Faust in der Illustration ?Faust, Szene auf der Straße?, gest. von C.A. Schwerdgeburth (1785-1878), erschienen in: Urania Taschenbuch für Damen?, Leipzig/Altenburg 1815.‎

‎Der Sohn von Georg Friedrich Kersting (1785-1847) erhielt erste Anleitung zum Malen bei seinem Vater. Um sich weiterzubilden besuchte er die Dresdener Akademie unter E. Bendemann (1811-1889) und J. Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872). Kleine Landschaften und Bildnisse bezeugen sein ererbtes starkes Talent. Dem Zuge der Zeit folgend, wandte er sich der historischen Malerei zu, war damit erfolgreich und wurde auch von seinen Lehrern gefördert. Seinen alternden Vater unterhielt der fein gebildete Künstler von Dresden aus mit geistreichen Schilderungen über die neuesten künstlerischen Entwicklungen und kopierte für ihn sogar einzelne Bilder aus der Düsseldorfer Schule. Einige köstliche Aquarelle in seinem Nachlaß zeigen ihn als den Spuren M. von Schwinds (1804-1871) folgend. Ein Lungenleiden brachte ihm einen frühen Tod.‎
