This copy is only in fair condition - the binding is rubbed the endpapers are stained there is a bookplate to the front pastedown and the contents are lightly spotted and thumbed. 'The 16th March' no year but after 1886. 1p on the reverse of an advertisement with engraving for his 1886 book 'Tales and Sketches of Lancashire Life' cut down to 16 x 13 cm. On aged paper with horizontal cut repaired with archival tape. Reads: 'Sent me very well. The poems I propose reading will be "The New Shirt." and "The Gravelgate Flood." You can take your choice betwixt "The New Shirt" and "The Bradley's Visit to Thisle Ho." Please send me a programme as soon as printed.' 'The 16th March' [no year, but after 1886]. unknown

Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking inscriptions inserts light foxing tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have moderate shelf wear with mild bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces heavily tanned particularly spine.
