Architecture Scott Chas. E.
Autograph letter signed. One page to Edward Biddle Esq. " I have read with much delight your article in this evening's Bulletin having always wanted to know more of the gentleman whose cultivated taste led to the erection of our grand old building; and thank you for testifying that its purely Grecian exterior has never been altered."
Bristol PA 1913. 4to. Small tears where sheet was folded small loss to upper left-hand corner otherwise fine. 4to. Letter from Charles E. Scott cashier of the Farmers National Bank of Bucks County concerning an article written by Edward Biddle about the bank's architecture. "The only alteration of the interior was the conversion of the river front parlor into a banking room. A country director several years ago wanted it to be painteda gray sic color and I had trouble in convincing him that all Grecian architecture was distinctively "white". Your historical article is a boon to our people who thank you for it. I have secured several copies and it shall have a prominent place in my scrap book for our centennial in 1915. Everybody in town seems to have read it" The building referred to here 244 Radcliffe Street in Bristol PA was originally built in 1818 as a private residence before being converted in 1833 into the Farmers National Bank. An addition was made 1952 and the building still stands today as part of the First Union Bank as of 2000.

unknown

ARCHITECTURE CONCRETE.
Build it of concrete: Armostone -- super-grade -- reinforced concrete construction is fireproof weatherproof everlasting. Send for Armostone Booklet. . . Salesman sample catalogue with 22 silver gelatin photographs.
New York & North Park NJ: Concrete Housing Corporation; Wood & Seals 1924. Oblong 4to. 11.5 x 8.5 in. With 22 linen-backed silver gelatin photographs mounted on white linen hinages photographic illustrated title page of Armostone system garage photos w/ negative numbers w/in the image 4 embossed at lower fore-edge by General Production Co. Philadelphia minor edgewear very minor fraying some soiling. Recent black cloth post-binder brass screw posts at gutter margin gilt lettering stamped on front cover VG exemplar. First edition of this very scarce salesman sample photo catalogue touting the construction advantages of the Armostone System. Armostone was a pre-fabricated wall system composed of 1 in. thick precast panels three feet wide by story height using cement mortar to seal the panels once installed. One of the early photos shows a team of three workmen carefully fitting the panels stiffed with vertical ribs as they slid into place because each panel was manufactured with tongue and groove notches to enhance the fit. The photos offer many different examples of large Craftsman bungalow and small temporary homes as well as many different types of garages and small service stations which could be quickly constructed with the system which also allowed for the exterior to be stuccoed achieving an appealing aesthetic appearance. As automobile ownership quickly expanded after World War I through the 1920s many fireproof Armostone garages were constructed. Four photos show just how well the building could survive with the images portraying the structure still largely intact and untouched while the wood doors and trim pieces were burned and could be inexpensively replaced. The Armostone system would continue to be marketed by the Concrete Housing Corp. through the 1960s. No copies located in Worldcat; See: Grace Meloy Architectural Precast Concrete Wall Panels: Their Technological Evolution Significance and Preservation 2016 pp. 18-19. BUILDER'S WOODWORK. UNIVERSAL DESIGN BOOK NUMBER 25. AMERICAN SASH AND DOOR CO. KANSAS CITY MO

Kansas City Mo.: American Sash & Door Company 1927. Quarto. Published by The Universal Catalog Bureau in Dubuque Iowa this catalog was available to trades people of the day and would be printed with each company's name on the cover and title page. Bound in original brown cloth 356 pages including index. Profusely illustrated with black and white half-tone and color illustrations of Arts and Crafts bungalow interior and exterior elements as well as more traditional styles. This exceptional trade catalogue of period detail provides invaluable assistance for interior design professionals and home restoration. The Universal Design Book No. 25 with its wide array of quality materials for home construction was distributed by many lumber and building companies the binding stamped with the company's name and logo. These fine products that were the "standard choices" of the day reveal the woeful group of look alikes offered at modern DIY stores as the pathetic elements that they are both aesthetically and with regard to the quality of construction. Although the date of the book is a bit past the generally accepted boundaries of the Arts and Crafts period " Mission Style" is on abundant display in inglenooks bookcases china closets doors stairways and more. Sun porches with rustic furnishings are pictured and the garden is considered with illustrations of trellises and seating. Aside from some light rubbing to the extremities this is a fine copy.
hardcover

Architecture French: Tronquois Auguste Architecte
BÂTIMENT PITTORESQUES: RECUEIL DE COTTAGES VILLAS CHÃLETS BÂTIMENTS DE COMMUNS ET DE BASSE-COUR. ETC. ETC. EXECUTÉS DANS LES ENVIRONS DE PARIS
Paris: Neuhaus Lith. 1867. Double-spread decorated lithographed title and twenty lithographed line renderings. Folio 50 x 33.5 cm. Contemporary half red morocco and marbled boards t.e.g. The pictorial title-spread lithographed on cream stock; the renderings are printed on gray stock. Trace of foxing to endleaves toe of spine and edges rubbed otherwise very good. First and evidently sole edition of this production showcasing Tronquois' works. Apart from the several plates of detail work the full scale renderings here are of the main or out-buildings of Château de Bethmont; the Orangerie Observatoir et Sallede Bains a Villers sur Marne; Villa à St. Greaien; Batiment de Communs à Marnes; Château de la Chaumette; Chateau de Bethmont and a pigeon house at St. Arnoult. The format suggests this production may have been undertaken as a promotional for Tronquois' services. Stepping across the channel he was commissioned to design the Chateau Impney in Droitwich for which he completed plans in 1869 and this production could conceivably have some relationship to lobbying for that commission. Little information about Tronquois seems to be accessible except for his identification with specific buildings. A scarce work: OCLC/Worldcat locates three copies in France a copy at Columbia and a copy at the V&A; a sixth copy is noted under a separate entry at ETH-Bibliothek Zurich and is curiously assigned a Baudry imprint but other details are sketchy. OCLC: 39252547. Neuhaus, Lith. hardcover

C. 1950 Architectural Rendering of A Restaurant on an Island By R.D. Fraser with an Overhead view as Well as Side View
Very nicely done ink line and wash drawing signed R.D. Fraser lower right; a highly detailed 'concept' architectural item with landscaping tables noted around the dining area bar dance floor and outer patio deck swimming pool dock area; restaurant and amenities take up the entire space of this 'island'; we speculate the architect may have had in mind one of the small Florida Keys or perhaps one of the Bahamas for a site; drawing approx. 20" x 3" size; done on Royal-Crest Illustrating Board manufactured by Hurlock Bros. Company Inc. Philadelphia; no date but circa 1950; some edge tips wear and soiling some spotting over the image a few old mounting holes and dents in cardstock; still in good condition and interesting architectural history an unusual subject well-treated. . Good. unknown
