‎Bart Ramakers is best known for his mythological scenes, in which he provides a contemporary interpretation of classical legends and stories. In A Divine Comedy, for example, he created his own version of the New Testament, and in ?The Anatomy of Beauty? he explored his fascination with classical standards of beauty and purity. In his latest project and book, ?The Bride Unveiled?, he goes a step further: he deconstructs many of these classical ideals in a surrealistic story about a cardinal and a journalist who each in the end will find their true love, after a lot of surrealistic plot turns and art references to Duchamp, Mari n, Bacon and their likes. Once bared, the veiled bride turns out to be a woman of flesh and blood, purified and marked by real life, true to life. ?The Bride Unveiled? is a long awaited delightful gem, bound in red linen, stamped in gold and finished with a gold cut. It?s printed in 250 copies only, 50 of which are numbered and signed. Some 60 pictures (never published before) tell the story of a devoted cardinal and his twin brother ? the former reporter Linlin ? , each of them searching for their eternal female. The images, shot in Italy, France and Belgium, are full of humour, estheticism, narrative details, art references? and Bart?s colours were never as daring as in this project.‎

‎De Collectie Dhondt-Dhaenens, een voorstelling is de nieuwe collectiecatalogus van het museum Dhondt-Dhaenens en toont de 130 kunstwer ken die werden geschonken door Jules en Irma Dhondt-Dhaenens aan de zelf opgerichte stichting, en bij uitbreiding aan de hele Vlaamse Gemeen schap. De catalogus wordt geconcipieerd rond een foto concept dat de fysieke omgang met de collectie zichtbaar maakt. Het boek wordt een theatervoor stelling met schilderijen, tekeningen en sculpturen, die als acteurs worden ingezet in wisselende sc ne beelden. Clusters van werken worden samengesteld, op de museumvloer gelegd en gefotografeerd. De figuranten die de werken vasthouden en ver plaatsen nemen deel aan de sc nische voorstelling en worden in de fotografische registratie opgeno men. Naast de opnames van de clusters worden in een aparte sectie een 25-tal topwerken paginagroot gereproduceerd. De belangrijkste acteurs worden hier als het ware nog eens individueel in de kijker geplaatst. De catalogus is een dynamisch 'kijkboek' waarin de lezer inzicht krijgt in de werking achter de museale schermen. Bovendien vormt het boek een index waarin elk werk wordt opgenomen n voorzien van een algemene basisregistratie. ‎Summary As the forerunners to the Paris Opera, the Acad mie d'op ras (1669-1672) and the Acad mie royale de musique (1672-1791) inspired first historical then aesthetic research, research that appeared very steadily through the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, researchers and performers alike began to change their perspective on the institution and its legacy, shifting away from the Acad mie's image as a tool used in the propaganda machine and towards a focus on aspects of performance practice. However, despite the scale and diversity of the current body of scholarship, many facets of the Acad mie royale de musique remain unexplored. It was first and foremost a cultural institution, one that developed its own identity and savoir-faire, some aspects of which still need to be uncovered. ? This study aims to reconsider the institution from a new angle, thanks to an interdisciplinary approach and three sustained motivations: questioning the institution's very nature, as well as its place and status in the French academic network; highlighting practical, logistical, and material questions as yet unexplored; and reevaluating not only its interactions with other theaters in Paris, at court, and in the provinces, but also the ways its repertoire spread in general. For once, poets and composers are not the main subject. We choose to concentrate instead on those who helped the pieces to exist and to come to life: directors and administrators, performers, teachers, and craftsmen. The papers focus on their hierarchical relationships, their decision-making authority, and their respective responsibilities, in order to better understand all that the fashioning of operas entails.
