Nel suo operato si possono distinguere due fasi principali la prima delle quali lo vede tra i sostenitori pi� accesi della "macchia". Al suo ritorno presso La Spezia si dedic� a quadri di storia di ispirazione letteraria. Saranno i primi riusciti studi macchiaioli risolti attraverso contrasti luministici e tonali alla maniera dei bozzetti. All'inizio degli anni Sessanta utilizz� la sua nuova tecnica per ritrarre le case e i rustici di Riomaggiore luogo da lui molto amato e che ne divenne il ritiro in tarda et�. Nel 1861 part� per Parigi primo viaggio di una numerosa serie verso la citt� francese dove ammir� in particolar modo i dipinti di soggetto campestre. Tornato a Firenze apport� dei cambiamenti al suo stile. Rimase punto fermo nella sua arte il concetto secondo il quale il paesaggio doveva essere rappresentazione della contemporaneit� e lo svilupper� dirigendosi sempre pi� verso il realismo. Questi furono anche gli anni in cui Signorini visse l'esperienza del "Gazzettino delle Arti del Disegno" fondato dal teorico del gruppo dei Macchiaioli Diego Martelli. La sua curiosit� intellettuale lo indusse sempre a guardare con interesse le varie espressioni figurative e a confrontarsi anche con i crudi soggetti della contemporaneit� soprattutto a partire dalla met� degli anni Sessanta. Fra gli anni Settanta e la fine del secolo si susseguirono numerosi viaggi che arricchiranno l'evoluzione artistica di Signorini. Il confronto con artisti a lui contemporanei lo spron� ad aggiornare costantemente le proprie ricerche sulle esperienze pi� attuali e innovative. Nel 1883 rifiut� la carica di professore all'Accademia di Firenze nonostante questo venne premiato da questa istituzione nel 1892. Alcuni critici hanno imputato a Signorini di non possedere uno stile unitario ma � forse questo il punto di forza dell'artista che si dimostra in grado di cogliere le differenze tra i soggetti e gli ambienti da lui ritratti. Signorini Sulle colline di SettignanoEgli varia a seconda che debba rappresentare un paesaggio toscano parigino o inglese ma questo indica la facolt� dell'artista di capire e rendere le differenze di natura cultura ed atmosfera di ogni determinato luogo. La carriera atistica di Signorini non pu� prescindere da quella di letterato. Oltre alle pubblicazioni sul "Gazzettino" scrisse per varie riviste d'arte nel 1877 furono pubblicate le 99 dicussioni artistiche e i suoi articoli sul Caff� Michelangiolo confluirono nell'ampio volume Caricaturisti e caricaturati al Caff� Michelangiolo nel 1893. Infine pubblicato postumo nel 1903 sar� la volta di Riomaggiore breve diario del pittore. unknown

Un percorso italiano in cui trovano spazio avvenimenti del passato e del presente descrizioni di luoghi e di personaggi testimonianze di ieri e di oggi riflessioni sul vissuto insomma Bianciardi come filo narratore che si affaccia ogni tanto per narrarci i suoi luoghi e farci capire come l'Italia di oggi sia in qualche modo figlia di quella di ieri anche se talvolta la supera e la contraddice. Fra i luoghi che percorreremo c'� moltissima Toscana quell'Italia mediana che tanto piaceva a Bianciardi ma che non era mai stata maggioritaria in Italia e molta Milano con qualche deviazione in Puglia e in Liguria e una trasferta a New York funzionale alla descrizione dell'Italia in trasformazione. Non quindi un'Italia completa ma un'Italia che parla all'Italia completa. In fondo in questo primo ventennio del XXI secolo siamo �quello che rimane� del XX secolo ma una rimanenza pesante un'eredit� con cui confrontarsi. La narrazione � talvolta interrotta da interventi esterni di personalit� diverse per formazione e interessi che su invito dell'autore si sono confrontate con un luogo 'bianciardiano' con osservazioni originali. Gli interventi non sono tutti omogenei per stile e per lunghezza anzi ho preferito non omologarli per lasciare ad ognuno il proprio stile di raccontare. Ogni capitolo � corredato da collegamenti multimediali extratestuali che accompagnano il lettore con suggestioni musicali e video in un'Italia che cambia. Come ha scritto Maurizio Maggiani: �ho bisogno di Bianciardi perch� porto nel cuore il tremendo peso di una cassetta di candelotti di dinamite e lui sa che peso �. Il peso di una giusta vendetta che non sar� mai.
