ill., br. Il volume accompagna la mostra dedicata Pisanello e allestita al Palazzo Ducale di Mantova dal 7 ottobre 2022 all'8 gennaio 2023. L'esposizione è pensata in occasione dei 50 anni della rassegna curata da Giovanni Paccagnini, che presentava la scoperta nelle sale di Palazzo Ducale di Mantova del ciclo decorativo di tema cavalleresco dipinto a tecnica mista intorno al 1430-1433 da Antonio Pisano, detto il Pisanello. La nuova mostra presenta un programma di ampia visione e lungo periodo per la valorizzazione dell'opera e della Sala dedicata all'artista, insieme all'attigua Sala dei Papi. L'allestimento è ripensato in maniera permanente, allo scopo di fornire a miglior fruizione possibile di un ritrovamento eccezionale del patrimonio artistico italiano. Il progetto prevede di restituire una leggibilità completa delle pitture, strappate e ricollocate oltre cinquant'anni fa, grazie a un nuovo sistema di illuminazione: una luce calda e rivolta sui dipinti murari di Pisanello - al posto della precedente luce diffusa naturale esalta i riflessi degli inserti dorati e i magnifici dettagli del disegno. Inoltre, una pedana sopraelevata consente al visitatore di apprezzare le pitture alla corretta distanza calcolata dall'artista. Un 'nuovo' percorso arricchito da apparati di approfondimento, che permette al pubblico la riscoperta secondo un punto di vista 'corretto' della realtà ricca di particolari e dettagli descritta dal Pisanello, della sua linea sinuosa e della straordinaria minuzia di tocco dell'artista. Il catalogo illustra e descrive le 30 opere in mostra, tra cui prestiti internazionali quali i capolavori del Pisanello la Madonna col Bambino e i santi Antonio e Giorgio della National Gallery di Londra, per la prima volta in Italia dalla sua "partenza" nel 1862, e i disegni del Museo del Louvre di Parigi; ma anche l'Adorazione dei magi di Stefano da Verona dalla Pinacoteca di Brera di Milano e, non da ultimo, la preziosa Madonna della Quaglia, una tavola giovanile di Pisanello, considerata tra le opere simbolo del Museo di Castelvecchio di Verona.
