Lima: Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano ICPNA; Museo del Grabado Peruano ICPNA 2024. b/w and color plates facs. ports. chron. cat. color pict flsg. wrps. Accompanies the exhibition organized by the Museo del Grabado ICPNA Lima from June 13th. to September 14th 2024. The exhibition catalogue seeks to publicize the development of the Peruvian avant-garde during the years 1925 to 1965 with engraving being the most important expressive medium for its dissemination presenting the graphic art of more than 100 engravers with a special section dedicated to José Sabogal. Thus in the north center and south of Peru spaces were opened for the dissemination of engraving through avant-garde magazines such as Amauta Boletín Titikaka Kosko Jarana and Cunan among others; as well as book covers and illustrations. Engraving manifested itself in Peru as an original look that although it was based on European influence such as modernism expressionism or naïve art soon delimited its own references by taking local elements such as Incaism primitivism costumbrismo and popular art becoming an expanded avant-garde. In this way it is about evidencing the creative process of engraving; that is the dialogue with the painting itself its affective links present in the dedications and the step towards institutionality in educational centers. ENGLISH AND SPANISH TEXTS. LIMITED EDITION OF 300 COPIES. Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano, ICPNA; Museo del Grabado Peruano, ICPNA unknown

Skira, Albert, editor Cover by Joan Miro
Minotaure. Revue Artistique et Littéraire. No. 7. First edition.
Paris: Albert Skira 1935. 4to. 32 x 25cm. Original wraps. Bookblock unglued from spine. Small creases on cover. Very good. Photographs by de Man Ray y& Brassai. Art by Hans Bellmer Anduve Beaudin Balthus. Textos de Tériade Roger Callois Henri Michaux Paul Eluard Maurice Raylan Bores Maurice Heine André Breton Salvador Dalí Herbert Reed.Minotaure published in Paris between 1933–39 was a Surrealist-oriented publication founded by Albert Skira with editors André Breton and Pierre Mabille. Prior to serving as a Minotaure editor Breton lent his support by publishing the full-page advertisement reproduced to the right which announced the first issue of the new publication in the final issue of Le Surréalisme au service de la revolution.Minotaure although not exclusively Surrealist in orientation was faithful to the Surrealist spirit. The periodical’s appeal for the mainstream art public gained wider recognition for the movement especially with its feature articles on architecture not commonly found in other Surrealist publications. The goal of Minotaure was to introduce Surrealism to a new generation of theorists and artists but with the onset of World War II in Europe Skira ceased publication in 1939.Each number of Minotaure included contributions from artists writers philosophers critics and psychoanalysts and was meant to be read as a collective work. Contributors included Paul Éluard Salvador Dalí Jacques Lacan Georges Bataille and Kurt Veil. Covers included artwork by Pablo Picasso Marcel Duchamp Gaston-Louis Roux André Derain Francisco Borés Joan Miró Dalí Henri Matisse René Magritte Max Ernst André Masson and Diego Rivera.Provenance: Galerie Kornfeld Bern. Fraternity. Translation by Louis Aragon.
Paris: 1939. Modern artists rally support for the children of the Spanish Civil War First edition one of 101 numbered copies signed by Spender Aragon and each of the nine contributing artists including Miró and Kandinsky. He responded "Free and violent things". He was exiled in Paris during the civil war made propaganda images for the republican cause and in January 1937 painted the haunting Still Life with Old Shoe which his biographer Jacques Dupin called "Miró's Guernica" Adams. A sister portfolio Solidarité was published the year before to benefit the same cause. Octavo.
