Signed and inscribed by Soyer on the half title page to Anita and Arthur Kahn and includes a very large drawing of a man and woman nude from the waist up. Inscription dated 1986. The Kahn's were very serious art collectors and a part of their collection was sold at Christie's several years ago. In very good condition but text block is a bit shaken. There is some sunning about the edges of the endpapers. The dust jacket has some light edge wear chips and small tears to the corners and spine ends. Light soiling to the rear panel. "We could draw as well as adults". The director of the Cooper Union took a look at the twins' work and immediately put them in the 3rd year. They attended free classes from 1914-1918. Soyers and his brother sold papers ran errands and did other odd jobs during the day. But in the art school he found a haven. When he sat down with his charcoal and paper all the insecurities of the day vanished and I felt and equal among my peers. When Raphael Soyer gave a talk to a Figurative Alliance meeting in New York he ended that talk by saying "If art survives at all I am certain that realism will outlast all the other isms."
