‎Met de publicatie naar aanleiding van de tentoonstellingen in het Stedelijk Museum van Aarschot, M in Leuven en het Museum Parkabdij is een nieuw standaardwerk over deze kunstenaar gerealiseerd, het eerste sinds de monografie over Verhaghen in 1932 van de hand van conservator Victor Demunter. De auteurs Peter Carpreau, Jo De Cuyper, Jan Gerits, Thomas Matei, Tessa Proost en Veronique Vandekerchove hebben nieuw onderzoek gevoerd naar het leven en het werk van de achttiende-eeuwse schilder. Hun onderzoeksresultaten vinden een neerslag in de essays en laten toe een breed en genuanceerd beeld te schetsen van zowel de kunstenaar als de familieman die Verhaghen was, van de leerschool die hij heeft gelopen en van de internationale faam die hij met zijn schilderkunst wist te verwerven. Uitgebreide catalogusnota?s begeleiden de tentoongestelde kunstwerken die in fraaie afbeeldingen het tweede deel van het boek uitmaken en zo een blik bieden op een belangrijk deel van Verhaghens schilderijen en tekeningen. Het boek verbeeldt een kunstenaar met zijn oeuvre die zijn hele carriere in het voetspoor van Rubens is getreden, en die hiermee een verdiende herwaardering krijgt.‎

‎Een tentoonstelling in Antwerpen in 2006, getiteld Vorstelijke vluchtelingen. William en Margaret Cavendish in het Rubenshuis, besteedde aandacht aan de oversteek van de hertog en de hertogin naar de Nederlanden. Het uit Engeland verbannen koningsgezinde paar vestigde zich aanvankelijk in Rotterdam: dicht bij de hofhouding van Willem II en zijn vrouw Mary Stuart. Het stadhouderlijk vertoon werd echter spoedig te kostbaar voor de Cavendishes, zodat ze naar Antwerpen uitweken. Daar bewoonden ze van 1648 tot 1660 het huis van Rubens, door de schilder zelf ontworpen en gedecoreerd. Boek verscheen naar aanleiding van de gelijnamige tentoonstelling in het Rubenshuis : 1 oktober - 31 december 2006. Nieuw boek, dat ook verkrijgbaar is in het engels onder de titel : 'Royalist Refugees'.‎
