‎Umschlag minimal vergilbt. - Die Themen der Radierungen und Monotypien von Degas sind sichtlich die gleichen wie die seiner Pastelle und Ölbilder. Es sind Experimente mit dem Ziel jener Perfektion, die Degas so unbedingt erreichen wollte. Er hat Tänzerinnen auf der Bühne und hinter den Kulissen dargestellt, Konzertcafe-Sängerinnen, einige Porträts, Akte. Wenn Pferde wenig dargestellt werden, so spielen dagegen Landschaftsfolgen eine größere Rolle in seiner Graphik als in der Malerei. Schließlich hat er sich auch für die Illustration interessiert, und das erklärt seine Monotypien über die Familie Cardinal - Typen von Tänzerinnen und Typen aus der Halbwelt des Theaters, die er zu gleicher Zeit wie sein Freund Ludovic Halevy (oder noch vor diesem) festhielt, und seine Maisons closes, die Bordelle (1876-1885), Sujets, über die Francoise Cachin Näheres in ihrem Text über die Monotypien berichtet.‎

Er wird häufig zu den Impressionisten gezählt, mit denen er gemeinsam ausstellte.
