The author informed me at time of signing that I was now in the possession of a rare book that less than 200 copies of this work were printed. Unfortunately Dr. Bartlett passed away on 12/14/2015 at age 95 in Knoxville Tennessee. In an author's note at the end of the work he states this is a work of fiction. However he goes on to say that perhaps something should be said about where the facts do lie and the fiction begins. This is on the last two pages of the work. Yellowstone Holiday is escapist reading at its very best. Clean fresh tight and bright. Original illustrated wrappers; pp. 24 profusely illustrated throughout by the author's brother; minimal spotting to wrappers otherwise very good with ownership inscription dated Newquay 1953 on initial blank. Newquay had been a destination for Britsh surfers since the 1930s.Scarce first edition first issue with the author's London address and not his later Rye Sussex address. The writer journalist and leftist politician is the author of this very early study on what he called 'surf riding'. He is well known as being the co-author of WW1 classic Journey's End and here took quite a left-field diversion. Bartlett exclaimed that you could use any kind of board even the landlady's tea-tray. He also dedicated a couple of pages to rubbish on the beaches and told its readers to dispose of their own waste. He finished by saying he was yet to find anything as exhilarating as surfing on the north Devon coast and that the older he got the more fun it was to do. unknown

Médecin, mais également poète dorigine écossaise, William Beattie (1793-1875) compose déjà durant ses études un ouvrage consacré à la Suisse: The Swiss Relic. Entre 1835 et 1836, il parcourt la Suisse avec son ami et compagnon de voyage, le célèbre graveur W. H. Bartlett, et donne ainsi naissance à la Suisse pittoresque.
