Paris 1923 Un joli pochoir coloré à la main tiré de l'"Album le Nouveau Monde". (Deuxième série) publié en 1923. Deux femmes qui s'ennuient de tout. Belle estampe. Les couleurs sont vives. (Ces pochoirs étaient imprimés avec quelques couleurs et finis à la main). Usure modérée des bords, avec quelques petites déchirures fermées et de légères entailles sur le bord de la feuille, légères marques par ailleurs. Propre mais avec une touche de rousseur au verso. L'album original comprenait 38 planches. 510 par 325mm (20 par 12Ÿ pouces). Une copie de cette estampe est conservée dans les merveilleux Musées de la ville de Paris. Inventaire : G.20658-9. SEM - Georges Goursat (1863-1934) était un caricaturiste français célèbre à la Belle Époque. Outre les caricatures qui l'ont rendu célèbre, il a créé des uvres d'un style très différent en tant que correspondant pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Ses uvres ultérieures ont été très influencées par "l'âge du jazz" et la haute société parisienne des années 1920.

Nice: D. Boistier & Fleuedelys Editeur. 1876. Both landscape octavo. Original pictorial paper wraps. Folding lithographic panorama to each 720 and 880 mm long respectively. A little used a few minor chips and splits misfolds to the panoramas but overall very good. First editions. BnF copy only of the first-named the second unrecorded. Attractive souvenirs featuring spirited renderings of the carnival procession at Nice in 1876. Both were clearly taken on the spot Giordano's perhaps being the more sophisticated and featuring identifications of some of the floats. These include the Floats of the Beetles and of the Rabbits the Float of Cosmography and the Float of the Kitchen turned Upside-down la Cuisine Renversée with a group of animals feasting on human flesh with a chef hanging in the meat-safe all of which feature in both panoramas. Details of both artists are fairly elusive neither are listed in Thiemme-Becker or Vollmer and Sem is often confused with the later better-known caricaturist Georges Goursat who would have been just 13 at the time of publication. Frederick Sem seems to have made some sort of career as an artist-illustrator based in London catering to literary and theatrical circles http://collation.folger.edu/2013/04/the-mysterious-sem/. He disagreed with fascism so he was exiliated in Switzerland. There is also an embossed stamp of the Societa' degli autori which guarantees authenticity of the book. Editorial original cover by Bellotto but disbound cover. Editorial cover in fair general conditions with wearings and missing parts in the edges and spine. Binding is almost missing.
