‎Stefan Wewerka (born 1928) is an 'uomo universale', an uncomfortable pedagogue, a bringer of enlightenment. In addition to his practical work as an architect - his competition entries have had a lasting effect on architectural discourse - he has alienated architecture photographically or with the aid of traditional artistic techniques, has written books, has painted pictures, has made films and object art. Wewerka became known to a wider public in the 60s by the artistic allenation of chairs and other everyday objects, which he sawed up or distorted in order to undermine familiar images subversively. He also did not leave architectural 'high culture' untouched.This catalogue delivers an extensive overview of his work in the fields of architecture, graphic and design. More than 240 illustrations and seven texts in english and german show not only his work, but also Wewerka's unique life and personality.‎

‎Der Sohn eines Lehrers ging in Augsburg bei dem Kupferstecher und Kunsthändler Friedrich Weber in die Lehre. Seine zeichnerischen und druckgraphischen Kenntnisse vermittelte ihm jedoch der Hofmaler Schmidt. Nach seiner Ausbildung arbeitete er für die Akademische Buchhandlung Herzberg in Augsburg, für die er populäre Druckgraphik schuf. 1808 ging er gemeinsam mit seinem Freund und Landsmann A. Adam (1786-1862) nach München. Seit 1809 und bis zu seinem Tode war er als Illustrator für den Bilderbogen-Verlag Friedrich Campe in Nürnberg tätig. Er schuf mehr als 5000 Zeichnungen, Illustrationen zu deutschen Klassikern, Zeitbilder, Kinderbücher, Almanache und Kalender. Voltz entnahm seine Bildthemen zeitgeschichtlichen Ereignissen wie den apoleon. Kriegen seit 1805, Befreiungskriegen, sogar dem griechischen Freiheitskampf. Ferner schuf er Historien- und Genrebilder. Er gilt als einer der wenigen deutschen Karikaturisten des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts.‎
