This is a very good hardcover copy with almost no wear. Completely clean inside and out. Text in French. This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Tajan in Paris on December 14, 1992. The sale contained an exceptional piece of furniture designed by Jules Debois (1851- 1935). A fine art nouveau bureau with sculptural ornaments of silver designed in 1902-03. The rest of the sale contained School of Paris paintings, prints and monotypes. No prices realized, just estimates for each piece except the Meuble-Sirene (estimation sur demand). One of the marks is a small bookplate of a well known American stained glass craftsman, the other mark is a small neat handstamp from the American Craft Information Center. Text in Catalan, Spanish, French, German and English. Illustrated in color throughout with 20 color photographs of art nouveau window designs executed in cloisonne (enamel) by Francisco Vidal, a master craftsman of this difficult and demanding technique. Also 22 black & white photographs of other decorative arts objects using this technique of cloisonne. This is a very good softcover copy with almost no wear. Completely clean inside and out. This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Sotheby's in Sussex, England on September 26, 1989. Sale code "HERCULES". The full title of the catalog is 'A collection of Venetian Garden Sculpture, including works attributed to Giovanni and Antonio Bonazza, Giovanni Marchiori and Orazio Marinali'. Brief introduction by Professor Giovanni Mariacher, who catalogued this collection and made the attributions. The Bonazza brothers were active in Padua from ca. 1698 to 1763. Giovanni Marchiori (1696- 1778) and Orazio Marinali (1643 - 1720) created many such sculptures for gardens such as the one at Villa Revedin Bolasco at Castelfranco. Similar sculptures can also be seen at the Villa Medici summer palace at Castello. 15 lots in the sale. 13 lots are heroic figurative sculptures, i.e. 'Diana', Figure of Zephyr', 'Hercules', 'Adonis', etc. The other 2 lots were pairs of medieval recumbent lions. This is a very good hardcover copy in pale green cloth boards with titles in gilt, and a vignette in darker green on the front cover. Top page-edge gilt. Covers a bit toned, spine has a small stain. The black design on the covers is still vivid and the gilt titles still bright. Slight foxing to preliminaries and endpapers. Also a note tipped in to the front endpaper, citing some London auction information from the 1960's and a very faint pencil notation by someone noting that they bought the book in Wimbledon at Lloyd's Bookshop in 1967. Otherwise very clean throughout. Slight lean to book, (but not cocked). Illustrations of late 19th century European and American posters in black & white on every other page.
