Ricard-Farrat, décoré de Juillet, membre de la société des Amis du Peuple, subit à Sainte-Pélagie une condamnation à 6 mois de prison pour délits de la presse, est mort du choléra. Nicolas-Paul Moreau de Montcheuil : décédé le 24 juillet 1832, à l’âge de 21 ans, à Sainte-Pélagie. Le suisse Zanoff qui se coupa la gorge dans cette même prison (accusé de républicanisme, après la révolution de 1830). Et enfin, Jacobeus, qui fut tué par la garde municipale dans l’émeute de la prison Sainte-Pélagie. Il fut déclaré innocent dans l’affaire de la rue des Prouvaires pour laquelle il avait été arrêté. Cette pl. fut réalisée à la suite de la publication dans la Caricature de la pl. « Projet du monument expia-poire à élever sur la place de la Révolution, précisément à la place où fut guillotiné Louis XVI » ( pl. 169 du 7 juin 1832 ; numéro 84), Charles dut purger une peine de prison de six mois et verser 2000 francs d'amende (il fut condamné pour outrages à la personne du roi), auxquels s'ajoutèrent sept mois liés à d'autres motifs de condamnation. C’est son séjour dans cette prison qui lui inspira cette pl. dénonçant par là les conditions de détention de prisonniers, ainsi que ce qui est considéré comme des erreurs judiciaires.

A portfolio of eleven stunning cubist / surrealist etchings (with drypoint) by Philippon, each numbered (15/15) and signed by the artist in pencil. Edition limited to 15 sets, all printed on fine wove paper. Philippon, although little known, was a very talented printmaker. The images include three female nudes, four town views, one interior, one portrait, and two depictions of the port of St-Tropez. 4to. Loose as issued in folding sheet. Cover a bit soiled and damaged, but the etchings are fine and bright, and have never been matted or framed. Extremely rare.
