‎N.p.: OPT / Universal 1978. 7239 leaves. Quarto. Mechanically reproduced typescript printed on rectos only of salmon paper. Bradbound in plain wrappers. Very good to near fine. A production draft of this adaptation to television of Howard Fast's 1977 novel. The 1979 release directed by Alvin J. Levi was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best TV Movie. The length of the script reflects the 240 minute running time and according to info on the title-leaf this draft incorporates revisions made four days prior to the scheduled start of shooting. ‎Faulkner William novel; Stephen Roberts director; Oliver HP. Garrett screenwriter; Miriam Hopkins William Gargan Jack La Rue‎

‎The Story of Temple Drake Collection of four original photographs from the 1933 film‎

‎Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures 1933. Collection of four vintage studio still photographs from the 1933 film. "Return to Natl-Kline Poster Co" and "26140" stamps on the verso. Based on the highly controversial 1931 novel "Sanctuary" by William Faulkner. Remade in 1961 as "Sanctuary" directed by Tony Richardson and starring Lee Remick and Yves Montand. Wealthy neurotic and reckless Southern belle Temple Drake Miriam Hopkins is abducted raped and forced into prostitution by the violent bootlegger Trigger Jack La Rue. Every bit as controversial as the source material the film's depiction of the assault was graphic and shocking even among films of the era. George Raft then under contract to Paramount was assigned the role of Trigger but found the part so repulsive he went to battle with the studio in a suit that nearly cost him his career. Along with the same year's equally sensational "Baby Face" directed by Alfred E. Green and starring Barbara Stanwyck and George Brent "The Story of Temple Drake" was directly responsible for the stricter enforcement of the Production Code beginning the next year bringing the pre-Code era to a close. An extremely rare film until very recently unavailable for decades outside of 16mm bootlegs with only one known nitrate print in storage at UCLA the film was restored by the Museum of Modern Art and re-premiered at the TCM Classic Film Festival in 2011. A high-definition digital restoration was released by the Criterion Collection in 2019. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus creasing largely in margins and corners some edgewear and two with closed tears one just enters image. Complete collation details available on request. Criterion Collection 1006. Grant US. Paramount Pictures unknown‎

‎Spring Shower Original screenplay for the 1932 film‎

‎Budapest: Hunnia Filmstudio 1929. Presentation copy of an Early Draft script for the Hungarian film released in Hungry in 1932 as "Tavaszi zapor" in Frace in 1933 as "Marie Legende Hongroise" and in the United States in 1935 as "Spring Shower." Housed in a likely hand-sewn floral cloth-covered portfolio the script is INSCRIBED by the Hungarian-American feminist and radical socialist screenwriter Ilona Fulop on the title page: "To Mac: / Because You still trust me! / Ilona / Christmas 1929 / Hollywood Cal." A unique and attractive item and probably the only surviving copy of the script. The story of a poor girl driven out of her village when she becomes pregnant by her employer's wealthy fiance finding refuge working as a maid in a brothel. After her daughter is taken from her however she falls into alcoholism and dies. A maid in Heaven as she was on earth she saves her daughter from befalling a similar fate by "emptying her mop bucket" on her daughter's head via a rain shower at a pivotal moment. A multinational production in which a Hungarian screenwriter and Hungarian director both with experience in Hollywood shot a film starring a French actress using frozen assets from a French producer that had been mandated for exclusively Hungarian use. Though not a box office success at the time it is now regarded as one of the all-time great films originating from the country. In a 1919 article entitled "What is 'Revolution' Doing to Love" screenwriter Fulop describes herself as a socialist radical as opposed to a revolutionary or a Bolshevik and her desire to further equal rights for women strongly defines her as a modern-day feminist as well. "Spring Showers" with its women- and proletarian-friendly plot thus comes as little surprise. Housed in floral cloth-covered portfolio titled wrappers. Title page present with credits for screenwriter Fulop. 78 leaves with last page of text numbered 77. Carbon typescript. ‎Neuilly-sur-Seine France: Gaumont 1913. Vintage double weight matte finish photograph from the legendary 1913 silent film serial. Printed onto heavy card stock for use as the equivalent of a modern day lobby card. With the Gaumont logo at the lower right corner. The first of Feuillade's three film serial masterpieces followed by "Les Vampires" 1915 and "Judex" 1916. Feuillade took the brave task of putting to film Fantomas already wildly popular with European audiences. The character can be seen as an outgrowth of the "hero thief" character Arsene Lupin from turn-of-the-century French fiction. But unlike Lupin Fantomas was completely comfortable killing those who got in his way sadistically and with no small amount of enjoyment. The scene pictured here shows Jaques Dollon Andre Luguetat at the police station sitting at the center having been framed by Fantomas. The journalist Fandor Georges Melchior standing in for Inspector Juve who is on the lam in disguise as a hobo stands over Dollon as a police inspector sits at a corner desk. Dollon goes on to escape then be captured by Fantomas who murders him cuts off his fingers and throws his body into the river. Fantomas then sews the fingers into a glove and commits further crimes continuing to implicate Dollon who in addition to being innocent is now dead. 11 x 9 inches. Mounted on brown card stock. The last of Feuillade's three film serial masterpieces preceded by "Fantomas" 1913 and "Les Vampires" 1915 combining elements of both its predecessors. In Judex Latin for "judge" Feuillade furthered his vision of the dark enigmatic anti-hero he introduced with the legendary Fantomas character and utilized Musidora-who played the lead character Irma Vep in "Les Vampires"-as the villainess. Judex was a step forward from the criminal Fantomas however predicting pulp heroes to come such as The Shadow and especially Batman in the US: he was a masterful fighter an expert in disguise and kept his headquarters in the subterranean passages beneath a ruined castle lavishly outfitted with high tech gadgets. Feuillade shot "Judex" in 1914 but the outbreak of World War I delayed release in France until 1916 and wide release until 1917. Pictured here is Judex cunning and silent in a stunt scene where in he attempts what we suspect will be successful entry into an unsuspecting criminal's car while the vehicle is in motion. 11 x 9 inches.
