Me and My Brother Original Poster for the 1969 film
New York: Two Faces / New Yorker Films 1969. Vintage poster for the 1969 film an experimental mix of documentary and fiction. Poster designed by Robert Frank. Director Robert Frank's first feature film in which he follows poet Peter Orlvosky and his mentally ill brother Julius as they move through the late 1960s Beat scene while Peter tries to care for his mostly catatonic brother. When Julius wanders off he is replaced in the film by actor Joseph Chaikin. The film examines the boundaries of reality and sanity and features the screenwriting debut of Sam Shepard and the first feature film appearance of Christopher Walken. The film was restored and released by Steidl in 2007 along with a book publication outlining the film. From the Steidl book: "Frank's feature debut was first screened in 1968 at the Venice Film Festival. Everything which had defined Frank's art up to that point turns up in this film - the look at America 'from the outside' the poetic libertinage of the Beats the marginal in a central role. It celebrates the return of the poetic essay as assemblage the affirmation of the underground as a wild cinematic analysis in the form of a collage and skillfully weaves together opposites plays counterfeits against the authentic pornography against poetry acting against being Beat cynicism against hippie romanticism monochrome against colored. The story contains bizarre twists and turns and appears to be a rather artless-film-within-a-film being shown at a rundown movie theater." 26.75 x 20.75 inches. Near Fine. Frank Capra producer intended director; Walter Newman screenwriter; Martin Caidin novel
Marooned Original screenplay for an unproduced film 1965
N.p.: Frank Capra Productions Inc 1965. Second Draft script for an unproduced film by screenwriter Walter Newman with Frank Capra credited on the title page as "Producer-Director" and with Capra's production company Frank Capra Productions Inc. heading the front wrapper. The script is 247 pages which would roughly amount to a four hour film.

In 1965 Capra was in negotiations to get the financing for Newman's adaptation of Martin Caidin's 1964 novel. Unfortunately the project was too ambitious and the cost too great to get the production off the ground even after Capra had heavy revisions made to the script. Columbia Pictures' producer M.J. Frankovich offered Capra $3 million to make the film requiring a downsizing of the project too great for Capra to accept prompting him to abandon the project.

Walter Newman is the acclaimed three time Academy Award nominated screenwriter of "Ace in the Hole" 1951 "Cat Ballou 1965 and "Bloodbrothers" 1978 as well as the uncredited screenwriter of "The Magnificent Seven" 1960 and "The Great Escape" both of which he renounced credit on after disputes with the same director John Sturges who would go on to direct "Marooned" in 1969 and perhaps not surprisingly abandon Newman's screenplay and hire screenwriter Mayo Simon. Newman is perhaps best known for his unproduced 1970 screenplay "Harrow Alley" called by some "the greatest screenplay never made" a 172 page macabre story of the Great Plague in mediaeval England and is regularly taught in film writing classes and has for years as recently as 2018 been rumored to be in production.

A film adaptation of Caidin's novel was made in 1969 by director John Sturges with a screenplay by Mayo Simon and starring Gregory Peck Richard Crenna David Janssen and Gene Hackman.

Three astronauts after spending months in orbit prepare to return to earth only to find the rocket boosters won't fire and their oxygen levels declining.

Blue titled wrappers noted as SECOND DRAFT on the front wrapper dated APRIL 14 1965. Frank Zappa director screenwriter starring; The Mothers of Invention Phyllis Smith Altenhaus Carl Zappa Don Preston starrin
Uncle Meat Original dialogue transcript for the unfinished film copy belonging to Frank Zappa
N.p.: N.p. 1970. Dialogue transcript for the unfinished film copy belonging to Frank Zappa circa 1968 with a single annotation in Zappa's hand in holograph ink of "Wednesday" on top of first page. A transcript of multiple takes of ten scenes shot by Zappa for his long aspired but never finished experimental film. Featuring scenes primarily between Don Preston and Phyllis Smith Altenhaus the transcript also contains dialogue from Zappa himself as well as Carl Zappa Billy Mundi Aynsley Dunbar and Jimmy Carl Black. The annotation of "Wednesday" likely refers to the day the sequences were shot or the day Zappa intended on editing the footage.

Full provenance available including letter stating transcript came from the estate of Zappa's longtime business manager Herb Cohen.

As early as 1967 Zappa had begun work on his infamous unfinished experimental film "Uncle Meat." Originally featuring his then band the Mothers of Invention as both musicians and fictional characters over the next decade the film would morph and change into various proposed incarnations by Zappa's apparently unbridled imagination but the project was always constrained by a lack of financing. Finally in 1987 a direct-to-video "making of" documentary of the uncompleted "Uncle Meat" production was released.

In 1969 the Mothers of Invention released the double album "Uncle Meat." Largely an instrumental soundtrack to the unfinished film the album was an unfocused but brilliant showcase for Zappa's compositional dexterity and a harbinger of his emergence as one of the most creatively fertile minds in rock music.

Transparent front wrapper with orange back wrapper and spine. 59 leaves with last page of text numbered 58. Mimeograph duplication rectos only. Pages with light stain on first leaf else Near Fine wrapper Very Good plus bound internally with three silver brads. N.p. unknown books

200 Motels Original photograph from the 1971 film
Beverly Hills CA: United Artists 1971. Vintage black-and-white studio still photographs from the 1971 "surrealist documentary" rock film. The still depicts composer/screenwriter Frank Zappa conducting and singing.

In 1970 Zappa completely re-formed the Mothers of Invention to include drummer Aynsley Dunber jazz keyboardist George Duke and three members of The Turtles. Zappa began to write a film for the new lineup and recorded "Chunga's Revenge" 1970 with them as a "preview." Subsequently Zappa met conductor Zubin Mehta and worked with him to produce a concert in May 1970 wherein the Los Angeles Philharmonic was augmented by the Mothers or vice versa as you like and referred to this as "the second preview."

The film itself shot in a week at Pinewood Studios outside London was a tripped-out documentary about life as a musician on the road and Zappa characteristically chose an eclectic group of celebrities to join the proceedings including Theodore Bikel Ringo Starr and Keith Moon. The resulting soundtrack is a matter of debate among Zappa enthusiasts but is notable for its orchestral finale "Strictly Genteel" a touchstone for the variety of classical music experimentations Zappa would subsequently pursue.

8 x 10 inches.
