‎Kantor, MacKinlay 1904-1977 American Poet, Journalist, Novelist and Screenwriter‎

‎Original Typescript Excerpt Signed‎

‎np nd. Loose_leaf. Near Fine. 8.25" x 11" sheet typing paper; original typescript excerpt signed. Condition: two horitzontal folds else fine. Original typescript of the final stanza stanza 9 of Kantor's famous poem: "Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg" signed by Mackinlay Kantor most likely typed by Kantor himself though that cannot be established . Provenance: purchased at auction from large collection. From Wikipedia: MacKinlay Kantor was an American journalist novelist and screenwriter. He wrote more than 30 novels several set during the American Civil War and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1956 for his 1955 novel "Andersonville". He also wrote the novel "Gettysburg" set during the Civil War. Kantor's poem "Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg" published in 1933 memorializes Lincoln's November 1863 visit to the ceremonies dedicating the new Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg where he Lincoln gave "a few appropriate remarks" that live on in history as the Gettysburg Address. Kantor's poem ends with a few lines that portray Lincoln's humanity as perceived by a dog: "I was a dog of Gettysburg. I trotted near the train And nosed among the officers who kicked me to my pain. A man came by. . . . I could not see. I howled. The light was dim But when I brushed against his legs I liked the smell of him.".

unknown‎

‎Universal City: Universal Pictures 1968. Vintage borderless photograph of actress Vanessa Redgrave and director Karel Reisz on the set of the 1968 film. With a mimeo snipe manuscript annotations and a library rubber stamp on the verso.

A high spot for Vanessa Redgrave in the 1960s a story that follows the life of the free spirited modern interpretive dancer Isadora Duncan.

From Dan Pavlides at Allmovie: Trained in classical dance Duncan shattered the traditional conformities in her art and her personal life. The film begins at the end of her life as she recalls the past while dictating her memoirs to her male secretary. Her uninhibited sexuality and insistence on personal freedom and expression shocked more conservative and narrow-minded patrons and audiences. She brought in elements of classic Greek dance during the height of the jazz age and had children in and out of wedlock. Married to sewing-machine heir Paris Singer Jason Robards and the Russian poet Sergei Essenin Ivan Tchenko her life was a rollercoaster ride of success and tragic failures. Two of her children drowned when her chauffeur left the car unattended and the vehicle plunged into a river. Duncan lived by her own rules often shunned by the very people who had so passionately embraced her pioneering efforts in dance women's liberation and free thinking. Redgrave was nominated for an Oscar for her performance.

The film's locales are international and range from California to Europe and the Soviet Union.
