Very minor corner wear and some with tiny pinholes at corners about fine. </em></p><p>When Buster Crabbe lost out to fellow Olympic swimmer Johnny Weissmuller in playing Tarzan at MGM Paramount came up with this competitive story. It was Buster's first feature film and the studio photographers wasted little time in presenting photography of his physique which bared nearly all and would not be tolerated once the Production Code was enforced.</p><p>This series of images introduced moviegoers to Crabbe. Overall very good. </em></p><p>Four photos in a series called "How To Swim in Nine Easy Lessons". The series includes nine photos as indicated; present are numbers 1 6 8 and 9. Each has a blurb printed on the verso explaining the swim technique which Buster is demonstrating. They were used to publicize his appearance in the Paramount film <em>Tip Off Girls</em>. The Olympic swim champ was popular and utilized in film for his physique more so than his acting talents but he did make for an iconic Flash Gordon.</p><p>From the Kenneth Anger collection but not stamped. Director Roger Michell follows up the hit romantic comedy Notting Hill 1999 with this thought-provoking thriller. Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson star respectively as Gavin Banek and Doyle Gibson two New York men whose lives become accidentally intertwined in a Good Friday fender bender on the FDR Drive. Late for a crucial appointment hotshot lawyer Gavin tosses Doyle a blank check and leaves the scene while Doyle whose car is inoperable is late for a court-appointed custody hearing. A recovering alcoholic Doyle's tardiness doesn't sit well with the judge who - sick of waiting for Gipson - grants custody to Doyle's ex-wife in Doyle's absence. The situation worsens when it becomes evident that Doyle has an equally important file belonging to Gavin which proves that an elderly man gave Banek's firm power-of-attorney over his foundation. So begins an escalating war of words and deeds between the two men. Soon egged on by an associate Toni Collette Gavin hires a fixer Dylan Baker to destroy Doyle's credit forcing Doyle to fire back with some cunning moves of his own. Born in New Orleans the stunning and sultry Lamour was crowned Miss New Orleans in 1931 then became a band singer and radio performer. She worked her way up with bit roles in films before her breakthrough role in THE JUNGLE PRINCESS. The film was released at Christmas 1936 and she became an iconic film figure wearing her sarong supposedly designed by uncredited Edith Head. Paramount had a gold mine and promoted Lamour in a host of sarong-type wear throughout 1937 no matter the period or setting of the films she was making including SWING HIGH SWING LOW THRILL OF A LIFETIME and the historical musical HIGH WIDE AND HANDSOME. Dorothy and her baby crocodile appear to have been photographed during production of THE JUNGLE PRINCESS. Still is coded P2156-458. Paramount copyright at bottom. Paramount. No binding. About Fine. Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures 1935. Vintage original 8 x 11"" 20 x 28 cm. black-and-white double weight glossy silver nitrate keybook photo. Minor wear at bottom left edge keybook holes at left edge about fine. Independent film producer Walter Wanger throws a wrap party at the completion of his Paramount-released musical Every Night at Eight on the film's nightclub set and likely on the last day of principal photography; it is rare to find photos showing such events. His stars Alice Faye Frances Langford George Raft and director Raoul Walsh are joined by left-to-right: - Henry Fonda who was placed under contract to Wanger in 1935 after Broadway success and was just finishing his first film The Farmer Takes a Wife; - Gail Patrick Paramount contract player who was appearing in Wanger's Smart Girl at the time; - Walter Wanger producer of the film; - Alice Faye who was on loan from Fox Pictures to star in Wanger's film. She is still in costume; - Ida Lupino who was appearing in and is in costume and makeup for Wanger's production Smart Girl; - William Wellman well-known director writer and producer seemingly between projects; - Alison Skipworth in costume for The Devil is a Woman; - Frances Langford making her feature film debut and debuting her signature song ""I'm In the Mood for Love"". Her costume matches that of Alice Faye; - George Raft lead star of the film and Paramount contract player; - Joan Bennett who would be married to Wanger between 1940-65 and who was appearing in numerous Paramount films in 1935; - Raoul Walsh director of the film; - Bert Hanlon though the verso identifies him as Harry Holman -- the character actor who appeared in over 20 films in 1935 alone including uncredited in this film -- it is incorrect. This is composer songwriter actor author and director Bert Hanlon who wrote dialogue for this film. The party took place in late-June 1935 at General Service Studio Hollywood CA. Ink stamped by the Hollywood Advertising Council June 26 1935. Paramount unknown
