Book form of a course of lectures given to the elder half of the Officers' Training Corps at Harrow about military strategy. Color photocopy of front panel and spine of dust jacket laid-in. Moderate-to-heavy rubbing to cover extremities with corners frayed and just worn through to boards. Irregular splotchy faded areas to outer margins of front cover cloth; spine faded; 3"split to cloth at lower front gutter. Few small stains to rear board. Neat prior owner signature to front endpaper. Light erasure scars to two lines of Preface. Title page creased vertically alongside endpaper--appears to be manufacturer gluing defect. Blind-stamped blue cloth boards in worn dust-jacket which has lost a section at the spine head and has insect damage at the flap folds. Four-page specimen section loosely inserted. The author has put into book form a course of lectures given to the elder half of the Officers' Training Corps at Harrow. It was intended that the book 'would set out some main illustrations of the success of the French at the time when they were the great military nation of Europe the reasons why they were so formidable and the circumstances in which they failed'.
