A work variously attributed to Post Tex Bender and Phil Johnson hero of Part 1. "Probably the second book written about the cowboy and evidently made the publishers some money although they were unscrupulous about authorship - RAMPAGING HERD 1819 also 1181." Whoever he was as a cow man he knew a lot about sheep and traveling the Great Plains and of course horses. HOWEVER Wright's AMERICAN FICTION no. 4352 states the first 358 pages are fiction but that the section on the Plains is factual. Note: HERD states 14 or 18 plates. I count 34 plates including the frontispiece and a view of Chicago's Union Stock Yards.
