Newly discovered in the 1970's al-Basri's extraordinarily learned work of philosophical theology is a striking new revelation of the intellectual life of Nestorian/Arabic Christianity. While al-Nadim listed al-Basri among the writers of the Mu'tazilah nothing was known about him until he was identified as the writer of newly discovered British Museum Arabic MS 801. The Family Record leaves have extensive handwritten notes of the families of Gen. Joseph Badger Jr. Signed by him of Gilmanton Belmont NH father of Gov. Wm. Badger 1834-36. & Charles Jacobs of Gilmanton. <br/><br/>Isaiah Thomas whom Benjamin Franklin called 'the Baskerville of America' was one of the notable publishers during the early days of the Republic.He made every effort to ensure accuracy of the text by comparing some thirty different editions and having the text carefully examined by several clergymen and others who compared it with eight Bibles - Herbert 1353." The First Illustrated Bible printed in America is the 1791 folio Bible by Isaiah Thomas "The most sumptuous American Bible of the eighteenth century" : thus this quarto-sized version of that work is the Second Illustrated Bible printed in America and the first Royal Quarto Bible in English published in American both editions were announced as "completed" on the same date altho vol. 2 of the folio was still in progress. Rumball-Petre 172; Sabin 5173 variant; O'Callaghan pp. 40-42; Hills 30. Evans 23185 states that some copies were issued with no Concordance and 48 additional plates. This state however has only two copperplates as frontispieces of the 50 copperplate engravings from the folio edition plates 29 & 48 . Included are 200 pages of Tables Apocrypha and Family Records Index etc. The subscription price was $7 but half the price could be paid in wheat rye Indian corn butter or pork! It is believed that 1500 copies of each format were printed. 'This volume consists wholly of articles selected from the successive numbers of the American Messenger, to the middle of its thirteenth volume. William Allen Hallock (1794-1880) was the agent for the New England Tract Society (based in Andover, MA) when it changed its name to the American Tract Society in 1823 with the intention of becoming a national organization. The New York Religious Tract Society, considering a similar goal, contacted the New England group in 1824 about a possible merger. Hallock, believing that "the great wicked city of New York" should be its home, was influential in effecting this in 1825. Studia Evangelica is a publication containing a series of papers presented to the International Congress held at Christ Church University of Oxford Oxford beginning in 1957. The Congress followed immediately on the annual gathering of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas which had met at Birmingham. The full title of the first volume is: Studia evangelica: papers presented to the International Congress on "The Four Gospels in 1957" held at Christ Church Oxford 1957. This was followed by six more volumes containing papers presented at subsequent congresses the last being published in 1982 comprised of papers presented at the fifth and final International Congress on Biblical Studies held in 1975 the entirety is offered here. All were in the series "Texte und Untersuchungen zur Geschichte der altchristlichen Literatur"; Vols. 73 87 88 102 103 112 & 126. They were published by Akademie-Verlag Berlin and the series was edited by Kurt Aland F. L. Cross Jean Danilou Harald Riesenfeld and W. C. Van Unnik. Eidtord change with each volume. All seven volumes of conference proceedings bear the common title "Studia Evangelica." This congress was subsequently designated as the First International Congress on New Testament Studies. These are not casual publications resulting from a symposia but are rather extensive gatherings of papers by the top New Testament scholars worldwide. Vol. I alone has over 800 pp. All of the volumes are comprised of loose leaves; the subscriber was meant to have them bound. We found one source for a digitized volume and it was in the same loose leaf format. All volumes are complete clean sleeved and put in manila envelopes with a typed label bearing the contents. It is a bit confusing but there were seveen volumes published for the five Internation Congresses held.The Studia Evangelica is the result of scholars of early Christianity gathering to discuss and present thinking on the historical social and theological contexts of early Christianity. They were mainly Protestant in their leanings and were open to such non-canonical subjects and the Dead Sea Scrolls and various other early manuscripts not accepted as part of the Bible in their discussions and papers of the daily worship of Christians in the millennia following the birth of Christ. Ludwig Philippsohn was the most famous son of Moses; a Reform preacher in Magdeburg, he nevertheless "tried to steer a middle course between Reform and Orthodoxy. He was among the initiators of the Rabbinical Synods of Brunswick (1844) , Frankfort (1845) , and Breslau (1846) , but was critical of their decisions. One of his projects was the establishment of a modern institution for training scholars, rabbis, and teachers. His newspaper was also dedicated to the struggle for emancipation in all parts of Germany and Europe and fought discrimination and anti-Semitism. Philippson published a popular translation of the Bible which went through three editions (1854, 1858, 1878) together with a revised edition illustrated by Dorm (1875) . Along with I. M. Jost and A. . A major focus for the Basel Mission was to create employment opportunities for the people of the area where each mission is located. To this end the society taught printing, tile manufacturing, and weaving, and employed people in these fields.
