From Wikipedia on Luther's Translation: While he was sequestered in the Wartburg Castle 15211522 Luther began to translate the New Testament from ancient Greek into German in order to make it more accessible to all the people of the ""Holy Roman Empire of the German nation."" He translated from the Greek text using Erasmus ' second edition 1519 of the Greek New Testament known as the Textus Receptus . Luther did not translate from the Latin Vulgate translation which is the Latin translation officially used by the Roman Catholic Church. Both Erasmus and Luther had learned Greek at the Latin schools led by the Brethren of the Common Life respectively in Deventer Netherlands and in Magdeburg. These lay brothers added late 15th century Greek as a new subject to their curriculum. At that time Greek was seldom taught even at universities. To help him in translating into contemporary German Luther would make forays into nearby towns and markets to listen to people speaking. He wanted to ensure their comprehension by translating as closely as possible to their contemporary language usage. Als Bibeltext liegt der Jubiläumsbibel die neu durchgesehene Fassung der Lutherbibel von 1912 zugrunde. Die Revision bewahrte 1912 in großem Umfang die Besonderheiten der Luthersprache korrigierte aber eindeutige Fehlübersetzungen des Reformators. Zugleich wurde der Bibeltext an die Ergebnisse der Zweiten Orthographischen Konferenz von 1901 in Berlin angepasst. Beteiligt an der Jubiläumsbibel waren verschiedene Theologen aus der Evangelisch-lutherischen Landeskirche in Württemberg. Ausdrücklich erwähnten die Verfasser des Vorwortes zur Bibel Pfarrer a.D. Paul Langbein. Langbein war Pfarrer in Enzklösterle im Schwarzwald in Würtingen und Blechstetten bei Reutlingen sowie Dettingen an der Erms. Der 1840 in Göppingen geborene Theologe war lange Jahre Mitglied im Brüderrat der Altpietistischen Gemeinschaften und leitete Bibelkurse. Der Bibeltext in der Jubiläumsbibel ist versweise zweispaltig gesetzt mit fett gedruckten Kernstellen. Die biblischen Vergleichsstellen stehen jeweils am Ende des Verses. Jetzt erscheint die Jubiläumsbibel die damals zum 100jährigen Bestehen der Privilegierten Württembergischen Bibelanstalt in Stuttgart erstmals noch in Frakturschrift erschien in moderner lateinischer Schrift. Der Bibeltext Lutherübersetzung von 1912 ist versweise zweispaltig gesetzt mit fett gedruckten Kernstellen. Biblische Vergleichsstellen stehen jeweils am Ende des Verses. Die erläuternden Anmerkungen sind im Anschluss an die Perikopen eingeschoben auf die sie sich beziehen. Im Anhang finden sich der beliebte Merkvers zur Ordnung der biblischen Bücher historische Sach- und Worterklärungen Zeittafel Schriftabschnitte und einzelne Schriftworte für besondere Fälle des Lebens August Hermann Franckes Kurzer Unterricht wie man die Heilige Schrift zu einer wahren Erbauung lesen solle Etwas über deutsche Bibelübersetzungen und über die von D. Martin Luther insbesondere und ein Verzeichnis der Sonn- und festtäglichen Evangelien und Episteln. Für Freunde des historischen Lutherbibeltextes von 1912 ist diese Bibelausgabe ein besonderer Schatz. Vor 1912 gab es keine Bibel mit durchgängigen Anmerkungen auf Deutsch. Die klassischen Lutherbibeln der Bibelanstalt wiesen bis zur Herausgabe der Jubiläumsbibel nur drei Erweiterungen zum übersetzten Text auf: die Kapitelüberschriften die Verweise auf ähnliche Bibelstellen und die Hervorhebung von Kernstellen. Als Bibeltext liegt der Jubiläumsbibel die neu durchgesehene Fassung der Lutherbibel von 1912 zugrunde. Es handelt sich um den damaligen kirchenamtlichen Text genehmigt vom Deutschen Evangelischen Kirchenausschuss. Die Revision bewahrte 1912 in großem Umfang die Besonderheiten der Luthersprache korrigierte aber eindeutige Fehlübersetzungen des Reformators. Zugleich wurde der Bibeltext an die Ergebnisse der Zweiten Orthographischen Konferenz von 1901 in Berlin angepasst. Beteiligt an der Jubiläumsbibel waren verschiedene Theologen aus der Evangelisch-lutherischen Landeskirche in Württemberg. Ausdrücklich erwähnten die Verfasser des Vorwortes zur Bibel Pfarrer a.D. Paul Langbein. Langbein war Pfarrer in Enzklösterle im Schwarzwald in Würtingen und Blechstetten bei Reutlingen sowie Dettingen an der Erms. Der 1840 in Göppingen geborene Theologe war lange Jahre Mitglied im Brüderrat der Altpietistischen Gemeinschaften und leitete Bibelkurse. Der Bibeltext in der Jubiläumsbibel ist versweise zweispaltig gesetzt mit fett gedruckten Kernstellen. Die biblischen Vergleichsstellen stehen jeweils am Ende des Verses. Die erläuternden Anmerkungen sind im Anschluss an die Perikopen eingeschoben auf die sie sich beziehen. The July 1963 4th printing of this historic letter from Dr. King written on April 16th 1963 while imprisoned at the Birmingham City Jail for "defying an injunction against anti-segregation protests". The letter was first printed in May of '63 and was quickly followed up with several succeeding printings in the next few months. This the 4th printing was published in July and has held up well. Very ephemeral to be sure but solid and VG in its stapled wrappers with one thin even crease running down the middle of the panels and light soiling along the edges. Thin octavo 15 pgs.
