‎The present publication presents the edition of an Irish treatise on the universe, composed in the ninth or tenth century. This work, which purportedly records a revelation of the mysteries of the cosmos uttered in angelic language by the soul of the apostle Philip, is characterized by the vividness of its imagery and the rich diversity of its content. Besides providing the most conservative version of the text, preserved in the Book of Lismore, the book supplies on facing pages a full critical edition of the second recension, found in four further manuscripts. Both versions are accompanied by translation. An introduction traces the text's transmission from the time of its composition down to the final flowering of the Irish scribal tradition in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; undertakes to identify its sources in earlier apocalyptic and cosmological literature; and subjects it to an in-depth linguistic analysis in order to place the question of its date in a clearer light. Seven, eight or twelve artes - Both their number and content, their boundaries and definition fluctuated greatly both in classical times as in the patristic and medieval period. This reflects a tension between philosophy (Plato) and literature (Socrates), between a more 'liberal' and a 'sticter' interpretation of christianity, between popular and learned culture, between ars and scientia. ‎Die Postille Dicta de tempore wurde in der umfangreichen hussitischen Fachliteratur nur selten erwahnt, obwohl schon 1915 uber das Manuskript berichtet und dann dieses Werk im Verzeichnis der lateinischen Schriften von Mag. Johannes Hus angefuhrt wurde. Die Postille entstand etwa im Jahr 1408 und enthalt 65 Predigten fur die Sonntagsevangelien des ganzen Jahres und fur einige Christus- und andere -festtage. Sie wurde nicht nur fur ein konkretes Jahr bestimmt, sondern war als ewige Postille gedacht. Mehr als die Entstehungszeit des Werkes ist die Person seines Verfassers umstritten. Zu den Zweifeln uber Hussens Autorschaft der Postille Dicta de tempore zahlen der allgemein kompilative Charakter des Werkes, seine stilistische und in der Ausdrucksweise vorkommende Uneinheitlicheit, die die Anwendung von mehreren Quellen mit sich bringt. Die Postille beinhaltet zwei ganze von Johannes Hus verfasste Texte und mehrere Zitaten, Motiven oder Teilen von Auslegungen aus den unstrittig Hus?schen Predigtsammlungen, zeigt jedoch besonders umfangreiche und bei Hus sonst nicht belegte Einstimmigkeiten mit der Postilla studentium seines Vorgangers Konrad von Waldhauser. Der Autor musste ein gebildeter und belesener Mensch sein, wohl jemand, der zum Umkreis von Johannes Hus gehorte und auch dem Universitatsmilieu nahestand. Dicta de tempore wurde zielbewusst als eine literarische Postille geschaffen, wohl von einem Autor, der verschiedene Quellen (J. Hus, K. Waldhauser, J. ‎Composed in about the year 725, the Liber Questionum in Euangeliis (LQE) is a comprehensive reference commentary on Matthew intended for ecclesiastics in the writing, teaching, and preaching professions. Its anonymous Irish redactor gathered together all the relevant patristic and native material available, adding to and adapting much of a still largely unpublished commentary on Matthew by the Hiberno-Latin writer Frigulus (fl. ca. 700). LQE's well-attested manuscript tradition and its far-flung exegetical influence make it one of the more intriguing texts to appear in the Scriptores Celtigenae series. Although LQE's origins are in Ireland (and one Irish fragment still survives), its manuscript families also include witnesses from England and the Continent. Not only is LQE a typical product of the early Irish church, but its considerable length, the variety of its sources, and its influence on later writers further reveal the work to be central to the entire early medieval Gospel commentary tradition. In addition to exegetes in England, the Carolingian writers Haimo of Auxerre (ob. 853), Rhabanus Maurus of Fulda (780-865), and especially Paschasius Radbertus of Corbie (ob. ca. 865) adapted it for their own works on Matthew. ‎Dieser Band XXX der Raimundi Lulli opera latina enthalt die Werke, die Ramon Lull in den Jahren 1301-1302 wahrend seiner Reise in den Vorderen Orient verfasst hat. Im September 1301 beendete er im Johannes Chrisostomus Kloster auf der Insel Zypern die Rhetorica nova. Dieses Werk, das ursprunglich katalanisch verfasst wurde und im Jahre 1303 in Genua ins Lateinische ubersetzt worden ist, will eine Anleitung zur Predigt und Uberredungskunst nach den Prinzipien der lullschen Ars sein. Ebenfalls auf Zypern im Dezember desselben Jahres fertigte er, in der Stadt Famagusta, den Liber de natura, eine philosophisch-theologische Abhandlung uber den Naturbegriff, der nicht nur eine zentrale Stellung in der lullschen Kosmologie beanspruchen darf, sondern auch eine Schlusselrolle in der Auseinandersetzung mit den Monophysiten spielte, welche eine menschliche Natur in Jesus von Nazareth ablehnten. In der zu Kleinarmenien (Kilikien) gehorenden strategischen Hafenstadt Ayas verfasste Lull im Januar 1302 eine kleine Lehrfibel mit dem Titel Liber quid debet homo de Deo credere mit dem Zweck, einerseits den Christen die Hauptaussagen des christlichen Glaubens uber Gott darzulegen und andererseits den Nichtchristen den christlichen Gottesbegriff bzw. die spezifischen christlichen Dogmen vor Augen zu fuhren. Diese katechetische Anleitung versucht nicht nur uber die Irrlehren der Sarazenen, Nestorianer und Monophysiten zu unterrichten, sodern auch die falsche Meinung, die viele Nichtchristen von christlichen Glauben haben, zu widerlegen. Schliesslich wird in diesem Band der Liber de mille proverbiis ediert, ein Werk, das Lull im Mittelmeer auf der Heimreise nach Mallorca geschrieben hat. Auf volkstumlicher einfachen Art werden hier Spruche uber die gottlichen und kardinalen Tugende, uber die menschlichen Laster, uber das Reden, uber Armut und Reichtum, uber das angemessene Handeln und die richtige Intention vorgelegt. Dieses Buch will eine praktische Erganzung zur vorherigen theoretischen Abhandlung sein. Wie in den jeweiligen Vorworte vorgetragen wird, beabsichtigt Ramon Lull die hermetische Struktur seiner ?allgemeinen? Kunst, auf ?spezielle? Wissensbereiche theoretisch und praktisch anzuwenden. ‎Mit Band XXXIII erscheint der bislang umfangreichste Einzelband in der Reihe der Raimundi Lulli Opera latina. Er umfasst zunachst eine kurze Notiz zum Liber de militia saeculari (op. 7), von dem keine lateinische Version erhalten ist, obgleich die katalanische Originalfassung unter dem Titel Llibre de l'orde de cavalleria zu den am weitesten verbreiteten Werken Lulls gehort. Im Anschluss bietet der Band die lateinischen Ersteditionen der Opera 8 und 9, die Ramon Lull zwischen 1274 und 1276 verfasst hat: De doctrina puerili (op. 8) und Orationes et contemplationes intellectus (op. 9). Die Doctrina puerilis, die Lull als eine Art "Handbuch des Allgemeinwissens fur Kinder und Jugendliche" geschrieben und seinem Sohn gewidmet hat, bietet in 100 Kapiteln einen enzyklopadischen Uberblick sowohl uber die zentralen Inhalte des christlichen Glaubens als auch uber das Wissen seiner Zeit, wie es sich in den Artes liberales und den universitaren Wissenschaften manifestierte. Daruber hinaus stellt Lull allgemeine Beobachtungen uber das menschliche Leben an und gibt Empfehlungen moralischer Art wie auch Ratschlage zu Fragen der Gesundheit und Erziehung. Da das ursprunglich auf Katalanisch abgefasste Werk in drei unterschiedlichen lateinischen Ubersetzungen erhalten ist, hat der Editor sich entschlossen, eine vierspaltige Textausgabe zu erarbeiten, in der die katalanische Originalfassung zusammen mit den drei Ubersetzungen in synoptischem Druck erscheint. In den mystisch-spekulativen Orationes et contemplationes intellectus fuhren die drei Seelenkrafte Verstand, Gedachtnis und Wille ein allegorisches Gesprach in zehn Teilen. Diese sind der Existenz Gottes und seinen neun Grundwurden bonitas, magnitudo, aeternitas, potestas, sapientia, voluntas, perfectio, gloria und virtus gewidmet, zu deren Betrachtung sich der Verstand mit Hilfe der beiden anderen Seelenkrafte erhebt. ‎Se presenta en estes volumenes las que se han denominado Historiae minores de Rodrigo Jimenez de Rada. Esta compuesto por las siguientes obras: Historia Romanorum, Historia Hugnorum, Vandalorum, Sueuorum, Alanorum et Silingorum, Historia Ostrogothorum e Historia Arabum. La finalidad de estas obras la expuso el proprio Toledano en el prologo a su De rebus Hispaniae: contar las historias particulares de los pueblos que han invadido Espana hasta el momento en que esto ocurre. Ademas la Historia Arabum es la primera historia de los arabes que se conoce en Occidente escrita de manera particular. El plan inicial de don Rodrigo era relatar por una parte la historia de Espana (De rebus Hispaniae...) concebida inicialmente como historia de los godos (... siue Historia Gothica) y por otra las invasiones que aquella habia sufrido hasta la llegada de estos (clades quas Hispania pertulit ante eos), de manera que el volumen completo consistiria en De rebus Hispaniae mas la Historia Romanorum y la Historia Hugnorum... El dialogo, mejor, el supuesto dialogo - que no es tal, sino un monologo - se entabla con un judio al que se intenta convencer de que lo se predice en el Viejo Testamento se cumple en el nuevo, sobre todo que es en Jesucristo donde se cumplen todas aquellas profecias, amen de otras noticias de variado caracter sobre los sacramentos, la venida del anticristo etc. Las propias circunstancias de la obra, su mas o menos probable relacion con el resto de las obras del Toledano hacen de ella una obra de atribucion dudosa. ‎This volume is published after volumes 1-3, 10, 7-7A and 8. It is certain that Dat rijcke der ghelieven was Ruusbroec's first treatise and it was written in Brussels (possibly ca. 1338). His next work, Die geestelike brulocht, takes a good number of themes from the first treatise and expands them considerably, while the fundamental vision of the ordinary and mystical life of prayer is identical in the two works. The three levels of spiritual life (the 'active' life, the 'life of longing', and the 'superessential life'), forming the principal structure of Brulocht, are already determinative for the structure of the first treatise. However, the treatment of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit in Rijcke is mainly a literary procedure. Ruusbroec's first audience of readers/listeners consisted of a few priests and their friends. The Middle Dutch text is based on a critical study of all manuscripts. Besides the Middle Dutch text the edition contains a new American-English translation and the Latin translation by L.Surius O.Carth (1552). The edition of the Middle Dutch text is critically recontructive. The text is accompanied by a variant apparatus, paleographic annotations, a source apparatus, a textcritical commentary and a lemmatized vocabulary with localizations. ‎The Psuedo-Nonnos Commentaries on Sermons IV, V, XXXIX and XLIII by Gregory of Nanzianos collect and explain most of the references to Hellenic learning and mythology made therein. They reflect the views (and level of education) of a tolerant but committed Eastern Christian of the early sixth century A.D., and excited much interest, both in the Byzantine world, and, after they were printed, in the West. Later commentators and scholiasts on St. Gregory made much use of the work, as did other writers and compilers of encyclopaedias. The edition is based upon an investigation of almost all of the 150 known manuscripts, and provides a text which is largely supported by the Syriac and Armenian versions. These are of early date. Recent collations of their texts are included in the apparatus criticus. The Introduction defines the relationship between the versions and the Greek text, the latter's recensions and the history of its tradition, with detailed stemmata. It surveys and updates previous and contemporary studies through the extent of the evidence at its disposal and the generous help of others.
