Inscribed by Robert Baum. Hanff and Greene pg. 94-95 First edition.</p><p><em>The Giant Horse of Oz </em>1928 is the twenty-second book in the Oz series created by L. Frank Baum and his successors and the eighth written by Ruth Plumly Thompson.</p><p>The tiny kingdom of the Ozure Isles perched on five islands in Lake Orizon surrounded by high mountains in a remote region of Munchkin Land has little contact with the outside world—of Oz. The evil witch Mombi has turned her malice in the Ozure direction. After kidnapping Queen Orin Mombi has left a fire-breathing lake monster named Quiberon in Lake Orizon to keep the natives prisoner. Even after Mombi was vanquished Quiberon remains.</p><p>Robert A. Baum Jr. 1942 - is a great-grandson of L. Frank Baum through his son Robert Stanton Baum and grandson Robert Alison Baum. He often attends events held by The International Wizard of Oz Club and has appeared in various documentaries along with a cameo in <em>The Dreamer of Oz. </em></p><p><strong>Condition: </strong>Robert Baum's inscription to title. <p><strong>No Dust Jacket</strong></p><p><strong>Book: </strong>Blemishes --Green boards are heavily worn with much wear on the points photo. There was notable damage to the board/spine junction. These cracks were expertly mended photo so that the new owner can open/close the book without the risk of causing further damage. Shelf wear and staining on both boards photo which is expected for a book carelessly handled by one and probably more children a century ago. Pages heavily toned with some water spotting edge tears and dog-eared pages restored.</p><p>Fortunately most of Neill's illustrations are free of any blemishes. Color images for the time--and with a children's book--shows this was a quality book production. Note that the illustrator depicted females with more contemporary hair styles bobbed hair rather than the traditional long flowing hair usually seen in fairy tale depictions. Neill made that adaptation in all his later images.</p><p><strong>Provinence: </strong>Refer to photo "This book belongs to . . ."</p><p>Historical and genealogical records show that <strong>Virginia Wirth Musselman</strong> lived at that Allentown address as a child and probably was born there. She would have been approximately seven years old at the time of the book's publication. Virginia died in 1985 age 65. The row house at 309 S. Franklin Street was constructed in 1904. The Wirth family occupied that house intermentiently in the decades that followed the last Wirth in 1976.<br /><br /></p> Reilly & Lee Company hardcover
