SAINT JOAN 1957 Title lobby card
No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 11 x 14"" 28 x 35 cm. title lobby card USA Jean Seberg Richard Widmark Richard Todd John Gielgud dir Otto Preminger; United Artists. A truly spectacular presentation of Saul Bass' brilliant art. Preminger loved Bass' artistic interpretations of the films he directed and so Bass executed the campaign art for nearly all of the director's films starting in the mid 1950s. This is the story of Joan of Arc her leadership of the French Army against the British the many battles she wins and then being branded a witch once she is no longer needed. Jean Seberg at 18 was selected after a highly publicized contest to play the title character. The film was based on the George Bernard Shaw play with a great screenplay by Graham Greene. There is a 3/4"" 2 cm. tear at the left side upper border addressed with archival tape and a very minor crease at the top right corner VERY GOOD-FINE. unknown books

SAUL BASS / THE TWO OF US 1967 or later Silkscreen art poster
No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Le vieil homme et l'enfant Vintage original 26 x 35"" 66 x 90 cm. silkscreen art poster USA. Our friend poster collector and dealer Daniel Strebin provided this information: About a decade ago he received consignments of Saul Bass silkscreens from the Bass estate. He personally saw invoices for some of them which were printed around 1965. Most of the silkscreens were produced at Art Krebs Studio in Los Angeles. Bass continued to have silkscreens created up until around 1980. All of the silkscreen editions appear to have been in editions of between 50-150. It also seems that once an edition was exhausted Bass did not make a second edition; as a result all of these art silkscreens are very rare indeed. Bass never intended for these posters to be sold -- they were intended to be given away. Since he was frequently frustrated with the compromises the film studios inflicted on his magnificent modernist designs the silkscreens were intended to represent his imagery in its purest possible form. This was for the US release of a French film by Claude Berri about a young Jewish boy who goes to live with a Catholic couple in France during World War II. The husband Michel Simon who does not know his young charge is Jewish is in fact a virulent anti-Semite but comes to love the young man and outgrow his prejudices. The original US theatrical one sheet poster has a similar design but it is only printed in black with an obtrusive slogan at the top -- making this silkscreen infinitely more effective. Unfolded VERY GOOD. unknown books

Saul Bass designer; Otto Preminger director
Archive of pressbooks designed by Saul Bass
N.p.: N.p. 1965. A dazzling collection of 10 original pressbooks designed by Saul Bass documenting the majority of the famed title and ad designer's work with director Otto Preminger in the 1950s 60s and 70s. Several of the pressbooks typically defy the existing conventions of pressbook design utilizing a wild variation of size and dimension with several of the items literally molded to represent the films they represent: "Advise and Consent" is shaped like a briefcase "In Harm's Way" is designed as a dossier with a string tie "The Cardinal" as a parcel and "Bunny Lake is Missing" as a newspaper. Other key Bass designed titles include "Anatomy of a Murder" "Bonjour Tristesse" and "The Man with the Golden Arm."<br/><br/>For most of the pressbooks in this collection we have never seen another example. A fascinating example of the advertising work done by the premiere title and ad designer of the twentieth century. <br/><br/>Various sizes ranging from Very Good to Near Fine condition. <br/><br/>Complete details available on request. SAUL BELLOW SIGNED FIRST EDITION
Dangling Man
Vanguard Press NYC 1944 This is a gorgeous SIGNED first edition of the author's first book. It has been bound in navy blue goatskin leather and is secure in a suede lined slipcase. The author has simply signed this without dedication on the title page in what looks like fountain pen ink - which has faded a bit. This is not just beautifully bound; it is thoroughly well bound. The hand marbled endpapers enhance the pleasure of this book. Whoever bound this has followed the spine titling design of the original issue. Signed by Author. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine.
