In excellent condition this is a facsimile edition of Colonel S. S. Jacob important work This particular set of works is a 1977 facsimile of the original 1890 work. To find a complete set of this works is scarce in any edition. This work have been beautifully bound in a uniform calf binding with blindstamp and gilt detailing to the boards and spine. Each of the volumes are in excellent condition. Prepared under the supervision of Colonel S. S. Jacob. Samuel Swinton Jacob was a British army officer who is best known for his architectural design work in India. As the head of the public work department in Jaipur Jacob build numerous buildings a structure throughout the region. Jacob was sympathetic to local traditional Indian design and construction techniques which set him apart from many colonial architects working oversees at that time. This interest in local design has undoubted influeces this work which examines small architectural details. / With an keen interest in local design this volume showcases the architecture of Jeypore. Each volume explores an element of design those being: copings and plinths pillars - caps and bases carved door brackets and arches. Collated complete. With a total of 324 plates across the 5 volumes. In the original work several plates were printed in colour however due to this being a facsimile each of the plates are printed in black and white.
