This book was published in 1942 just prior to Merritt's death on August 21 1943. Under Merritt's editorship THE AMERICAN WEEKLY reached the staggerin g circulation level of 7500000 in 1943!!. The book is a series of 18 chapters by Merritt in which he describes the editorial process behind the selection of the article in each issue which was mos t interesting to him either because of the novelty of the material of the obstacles overcome in obtaining it. The articles present a vivid picture of the editorial mind at work. Black /dark blue board s with two minor chips on edge of back cover. No markings whatever other than the Merritt inscription. Each booklet has been sewn into a white paper wrapper with original wrapper retained with uncredited amateur but fairly well accomplished pen-and-ink illustrations in the style of Virgil Finlay and Hannes Bok on front cover and on inside rear cover; all are laid into a pictorial paper portfolio titled "Short Stories by A.
