A nice oval engraved portrait "en profil" after a drawing by the Danish artist and engraver Johan Frederik Clemens 1748-1831 and engraved by the famous French engraver and cartographer Ambroise Tardieu 1788-1841. "Today he is best remembered for the over 800 engraved portraits produced during his career many of which render famous scientists from that period" Curtis Shuh's bibliography of mineralogy. Trembley 1710-1784 was a famous Swiss Zoologist best known for his "M�moires pour servir � l'histoire d'un genre de polypes d'eau douce". The French caption records Trembley's place in the scientific world and his years of birth and death. Some mostly marginal foxing otherwise very good. unknown
Geneva 1778-1783. Single sheet 19.3 x 12.0 cm. Printed surface 18.5 x 10.4 cm. A nice oval engraved portrait "en profil" by the Danish engraver Johan Frederik Clemens 1748-1831 after an original drawing. Trembley 1710-1784 was a famous Swiss Zoologist best known for his "M�moires pour servir � l'histoire d'un genre de polypes d'eau douce" 1744 which contains the results of the first experimental biological study of regeneration in animals polypes. The French caption records Trembley's year and city of birth Geneve 1710. This portrait was taken from a copy of Trembley's "Instructions d'un p�re � ses enfans sur la principe de la vertu et du bonheur" 1783. Right margin a bit uneven and soiled otherwise very good. unknown
