"He shows us the connection between personal inner peace and peace on earth." - -H.H. The Dalai Lama. Known and loved worldwide for his teachings on mindfulness and compassion Thich Nhat Hanh was once nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King Jr. On Peacemaking this beloved Zen master returns to the theme that first brought him to the world's attention: peace and how to embody it. Looking deeply into the roots of anger Thich Nhat Hanh emerges with real solutions to the violence we commit against ourselves and each other. Thich Nhat Hanh uses the philosophy of non-dualism to show that we are not separate but one with our feelings and the world. He teaches that the awareness of anger not its suppression- is key to its control. From the keys to transforming anger through meditation to putting kindness into action to heal the wounds between nations here is Thich Nhat Hanh's personal testament to the spiritual and practical power of nonviolence with Peacemaking. Topics: Interbeing; the effects of awareness; liberation through insight; cultivating nonviolence toward self; understanding your enemies; what the Vietnam War taught us; mindfulness and ecology; restoring yourself; kindness in action; ideal solitude; teaching children peacemaking; and more. "At one point Thich Nhat Hanh--a Buddhist monk--refers to the practice of meditation not only as a way to experience a contented state of mind or release from worry but also as a way to prepare for suffering. His 34 exercises achieve different goals: a joyful spirit inner strength and acceptance of the transitory nature of life are some inducements to practice the techniques set forth. Thich Nhat Hanh briefly describes methods to aid in undertaking these meditation exercises and his gentle guidance should appeal both to newcomers and to those experienced in meditating but on the lookout for a new direction. What Color is Your Mind
Ithaca NY Snow Lion Publications 1993. Paperback First Edition Thus 1993 so stated. First Edition Thus 1993 so stated. Near Fine in Wraps: shows very slight spine lean; else only a hint of wear to the corner tips and the front panel seems to want to lift or 'curl' very slightly. The binding remains secure; the text is clean. Very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder Book-Club or Ex-Library. 8vo. 189pp. Foreward by H.H. The Dalai Lama. Trade Paperback. This is a very fine book. Chodren a Tibetan Buddhist nun teaches us the basics of Buddhism in a question and answer format. She answers all kinds of questions. For the beginner as well as the more advanced practioner. If you are confused about whether to buy this book or her "Buddhism for Beginners" buy this book. This book has a preamble in the beginning of each chapter that teaches you the basics. "Buddhism for Beginners" doesn't. This book also includes a section in the back on how to deal with anger. It clearly explains the basic ideas without excessive jargon. Important terms like "Dharma" and "Sangha" are explained but for the most part the ideas are explained simply in plain English. The important concepts are explained thoroughly enough for basic understanding but it doesn't get too deep so it's ideal for beginners. There was a very helpful section on how to deal with anger. I heartily recommend this section especially. It is true that freeing oneself of anger is important in Dharma practice but the simple practical solutions in this section will be helpful to anyone that has problems with anger Buddhist or not. In general this book is a good jumping off point for the study of Buddhism. Snow Lion Publications, paperback
