Il neognosticismo si rivolge all'uomo contemporaneo attraverso una particolare modulazione capace di avvolgerlo e di farlo sentire, pur nella propria inadeguatezza ed elementare massificazione, un essere speciale: un individuo, il quale proprio perché 'speciale' e soggetto alle malevole attenzioni delle forze di questo mondo, soffre ed è disagiato, come un vaso di terracotta in mezzo ad un mondo di ferrea spigolosità.

Ciò al fine di permettere a colui che si avvicina allo gnosticismo di comprenderne il significato profondo, un significato che va ben oltre gli aspetti formali dei suoi stilemi, dell'apparenza dell'immagine e della linearità dell'informazione; questi ultimi elementi sono certamente importanti in chiave comunicativa, ma rappresentano solamente una particola del messaggio gnostico: il quale vuole essere fondamentalmente formativo. Una formazione tesa a fecondare l'anima, in colui che risuona identica armonia interiore, e determinare quella vibrazione atta a mutare il percepito di quanto è reale e di quanto è illusorio, e di tradurlo in nuova linfa vitale.

br. La parola greca gnosis significa semplicemente "conoscenza", ma nella letteratura gnostica non si tratta affatto di un sapere qualunque ma di una rivelazione segreta e misteriosa. Le sette gnostiche, infatti, affermano spesso di possedere libri di origine superiore al mondo profano, attribuiti a personaggi prestigiosi, autentici inviati celesti. Gli gnostici per i Padri della Chiesa erano falsi cristiani, un'accozzaglia di movimenti eretici diversificati e ramificati all'infinito in innumerevoli sette e sottosette, tuttavia sono molti gli storici che ancora considerano lo gnosticismo come una congerie di fantasticherie bizzarre, incoerenze, strani miti, fantasmagorie prive di qualsiasi interesse filosofico, in definitiva nient'altro che una branca particolarmente degenerata dell'inquietante sincretismo religioso del I e del II secolo della nostra era. Questo libro prova ad analizzare i tratti comuni presenti nel grande magma dello gnosticismo e conduce il lettore attraverso un excursus storico-filosofico di questa dottrina che predicava la salvezza dell'anima attraverso la conoscenza e che è rinata più volte nei secoli, perfino in età contemporanea, all'interno del romanticismo, del simbolismo e del surrealismo.

br. Il Pistis Sophia, o Libro del Salvatore, è un vangelo gnostico scritto in lingua copta probabilmente nella seconda metà del III secolo. Come altri vangeli gnostici contiene una rivelazione segreta di Gesù risorto ai discepoli in assemblea (inclusa Maria Maddalena, la Madonna, e Marta), durante gli undici anni successivi alla sua resurrezione. Perduto per secoli, è studiato dal 1772 grazie al codice Askew. Ne sono state ritrovate varianti tra i Codici di Nag Hammâdi nel 1945. Non va confuso con altri testi gnostici: la Sapienza di Gesù Cristo o Sofia di Gesù Cristo; il Dialogo del Salvatore; il Vangelo del Salvatore.
