Aujourdhui, il ne subsiste quune vingtaine de ces constructions qui sont les témoins muets du passé. Muets ? Sil leur était donné de parler, ils auraient bien des histoires et de lHistoire à vous conter. Les plus grands écrivains ont évoqué ces lieux dun autre âge au sein de leurs romans. Ainsi, Balzac nous a restitué latmosphère qui régnait dans les Galeries et passages du Palais-Royal, lieu du jeu et de la prostitution et qui fut le quartier général des membres de la Bande Noire, ancétres de nos modernes spéculateurs. Lérudit et fantaisiste Gérard de Nerval sy livra à ses excentricités et Diderot y vécut un amour passionné... enfin, peut-être ! Plus récemment, Boris Vian et Serge Gainsbourg débutèrent au Milord lArsouille, cabaret qui accueillait, Ferré, Brassens et Brel. Zola, quant à lui, planta le décor de Nana sous les lambris du passage des Panoramas. Mais qui se souvient, quen 1832, Victor Hugo faillit être tué, au passage du Saumon ? Deux ans auparavant, il aurait pu croiser Alexandre Dumas, vêtu en chasseur et armé dun fusil de chasse, venu participer à linsurrection de 1830. Toutefois, selon votre humeur, vous pourrez préférer vous perdre dans ces humbles voies qui sont autant de passages découverts. Lunivers de la BD nest pas oublié et ce nest pas la moindre des surprises qui vous attend dans le sombre passage des Patriarches. Edgar P. Jacobs et sa célèbre Marque Jaune, y ont laissé une curieuse énigme, en loccurrence une vignette muette, comportant un phylactère privé de son texte, de sa Parole.‎
