1932. collection of material relating to a Mediterranean cruise out of Liverpool in July 1932. 40-page booklet contains list of passengers and other information. Also included are six menus from the tour a concert programme and a number of Wireless Press news bulletins issued while the tour progressed. The passenger list in pamphlet form is torn to near half way at the spine; the news bulletins on newsprint are darkened with age. Probaly scarce assembly of cruise memorabilia. First Edition. A picture of this book A superbly produced work covering the flora, fauna, archaeology, and the ethnology of indigenous peoples of Amazonia. Each section has representative plates, the flora section including six plates on orchids, the fauna section including plates on birds, animals, fish, the archaeology section includes many artifacts, and the ethnology section including illustrations of weapons, handicrafts, etc. The fine plates are from paintings by Hilda Velloso, Armando Pacheri and Georges Julian Simoni. The text is in Portuguese.

A meticulous study of auroral observations taken from winter quarters at Cape Evans in 1911 and 1912 and from winter quarters at Cape Adare in 1911 with appendix on the natural ionisation in closed metal containers. In his introduction Wright ascribes Simpson and Raymond Priestley geologist for the Northern Party for the efficacy of the arduous undertaking. Sir Charles Seymour Wright1887-1975 was a Canadian member of Robert Falcon Scott's antarctic 'Terra Nova' expedition. Wright was the member of the search party to find the tent containing the bodies of Scott Edward Wilson and Henry Robertson Bowers who perished on their return trek from the South Pole. Illustrated with a folding coloured chart 17 plain litho plates 4 tinted litho plates of which two are waterstained thick octavo pp xviii 517 slightly age-toned internally one gathering proruding and a little loose the endpapers are also stained but the remaining contents clear and clean original green cloth very slightly marked slight wear to the corners small tears at head and tail of the spine. With the tiny book label of John Ruskin Brantwood. An inscription on the half-title reads "Dr Waller With Mr Cunningham's kindest regards in grateful recollection of July and August 1870". The Ruskin bookplate helps identify Dr Waller as David Waller the founder of Queenswood School. The name Queenswood derives from a lecture by John Ruskin 1819-1900 "Of Queens Gardens" published in 1865 in Sesame and Lilies and so does the school motto 'in hortis reginæ' "In Queens Gardens". Ruskins ideas on the education power and place of women in society formed the basis of the school ethos. Ruskin acquired the house in 1871 and it may be that this book was an ealry gift from Waller At some stage it was acquired by Professor Jack Hawkes and his signature dated 1945 is written below the Ruskin label.
