A picture of this book is Griffin 263: 'An account based on Harcourt's colonizing voyage to Guiana in 1608-1609, reprinted from the 1613 first edition, but includes the additions made by Harcourt in the second edition. Another appendix contains a report on the Marwin (Maroni) River sent to Harcourt in about 1612. The Relation is useful for its ethnography, natural history and scheme for colonization.' Hardcover, no jacket; gilt and embossed boards, good condition. Boards are a little grubby and worn at the extremities. The spine has some rubbing to the edges, compressed ends and small nicks to the foot. The corners are bumped and nicked, worse at the bottom. Internally both front and rear hinges are cracked but the binding remains solid with no loose pages. There is some minor foxing throughout but the text and image plates remain bright and clear. Fold out map at rear is present but has an open tear in the middle. DP Used
