‎Belle carte du Congo Belge, nom porté par le territoire de l’actuelle République Démocratique du Congo (RDC) entre le 15 novembre 1908, fin de l’État indépendant du Congo, possession personnelle pendant 23 ans du roi des Belges Léopold II, et l’accession à l’indépendance congolaise, effective le 30 juin 1960. Elle a été dessinée par James Thiriar, et publiée en 1951. Cette carte était offerte par le chocolat Côte d'Or avec l'album Faunaflor-Congo, avec l'autorisation de l'Office de Renseignements et du Tourisme du Congo-Belge et du Ruanda-Urundi (Rwanda Burundi). Les éléments décoratifs sont de Pierre Margraf. Elle est ornée de vignettes montrant des personnages issus de différentes ethnies, avec leurs costumes et leurs parures caractéristiques, leurs instruments de musique, avec parfois quelques groupes comme celui du roi des Bakuba. Ces vignettes illustrent également la faune et la flore du Congo. Ainsi peut-on voir des girafes et un rhinocéros dans le Parc National de la Garamba, des éléphants cornaqués dans la station de domestication de Gangara (Gangala) Na Bodio, un okapi, des gorilles de montagne, les neiges de la chaîne du Ruwenzori, des volcans, un pélican, des hippopotames, des éléphants de savane ou de forêt, des lions, des léopards, des zèbres, ou encore des buffles. En bas à gauche figure une grande vignette montrant un guerrier tutsi, une femme Mangbetu, un Pygmée, mais aussi curieusement un personnage arabe. Les bordures sont décorées de 32 objets sculptés, comprenant des masques, des pendentifs et des statuettes. James Thiriar (1889-1965) fut un dessinateur, illustrateur, peintre et costumier belge, connu principalement pour ses dessins d'uniformes militaires. En 1932, il participa à la mission belge d'exploration du Ruwenzori, au cours de laquelle il peignit notamment des aquarelles et des gouaches illustrant la végétation du Congo et du Soudan, et rédigea un document sur la faune et la flore de cette région. En 1942, il dessina 232 illustrations incluses dans les trois volumes des Croquis Congolais du général Fernand Gendarme (Force publique du Congo Belge). Bon exemplaire, non entoilé.
