Appalled at the terrible effects of the slave trade on African life he became a fierce abolitionist. His "Missionary Travels" was first published in London 1857 and in Philadelphia the following year. The edition offered here is the only one issued with color lithograph plates and is rare. 8vo 20 cm; xiv 442 20 pages and 12 chromolithograph plates.
