This volume records 12 acts of the Second Parliament of the first regnal year of Mary I. Two of these concern the queen's status: "An Acte Touching the Articles of the Queenes Highnes Moste Noble Marriage" contains the text of the Mary's marriage contract with King Philip II of Spain and endorses the union. The "Acte Declaring that the Regall Power of the Realme is in the Queenes Maiestie as Fullie and Absolutelie As Ever it Was in Anye of Her Mooste Noble Progenitours Kynges of this Realme" settled the controversy in Parliament over the legitimacy of her succession. Moderate toning to text faint dampstaining in a few places early annotations to rear endleaf. $450. This annotated compilation offers unique insights into the mechanisms of taxation the state of local industry and trade and contemporary assumptions about social utility and discretionary spending. The acts are printed in the center of the pages. Side-notes in the left margin contain amendments case citations and interpretive comments those in the right margin are summaries that taken together form a quasi-abridgment of the law. Ordnance Survey 1903. The map sheet measures 8 ft. 4 ins. x 7ft 5ins. and are 6-inch to the mile sheets LVI LVII & LVII and possible 3 more whose sheet numbers would have been lost at joining. Lower right is a coloured coded reference as the map has been partly coloured to show the Boroughs of West Bromwich Wednesbury Oldbury Rowley & Tipton; buildings erected sites of sewage disposal bus routes waterworks police stations tramways etc. etc. In very good order. Closed tear to edge of page v. 71 copies only were printed of which 60 demy octavo 8 royal octavo and 3 demy folio. This copy has been trimmed in binding and measures approximately 8.5 x 5.375 inches I imagine from the evidence that it is a proof copy and therefore additional to the 71 quoted.
