‎Anonyme Flugschrift, erschienen nach der Hinrichtung des englischen Königs Karl I., der auf Betreiben Oliver Cromwells wegen Hochverrats angeklagt und verurteilt wurde. Karls Versuche, in England und Schottland eine gleichförmige Kirchenverfassung durchzusetzen und als absolutistischer Herrscher gegen das Parlament zu regieren, hatten 1642 zum Ausbruch des Englischen Bürgerkriegs geführt. Die Hinrichtung erregte in Europa große Empörung und führte zur Veröffentlichung verschiedener Flugschriften. Der zweite Teil der vorliegenden Schrift erschien noch im gleichen Jahr. Dans un style clair et accessible, l’auteur explore les évolutions de l’Empire britannique ainsi que celle des différentes aires conquises. J. Weber a eu le soin d’insérer, au fil du récit, de nombreux extraits de sources d’époque (journaux, pamphlets, romans, rapports officiels, traités diplomatiques, récits d’explorateurs, etc.) dont il assure souvent la traduction.
