‎* Salis-Seewis: Joh. Ulrich Dietegen v. S.-S.Salis-Seewis, geb. am 16. Mai 1777, ? am 15. Januar 1817. Geboren auf Schloß Bothmar bei Malans, unterrichtet von einem Hauslehrer, Kahlert aus Breslau, der ihn 1786 nach Lausanne, 1788 in Schweighäuser's Erziehungsanstalt in Buchsweiler im Elsaß, 1790 mit derselben nach Straßburg begleitete, besuchte S. später die Akademie in Stuttgart und bezog 1795 die Universität Marburg. An Jung-Stilling empfohlen, fand er bei demselben freundlichste Aufnahme und empfing von Jung-St. wissenschaftliche und religiöse Anregungen, die seine Verbindung mit demselben auch später fortdauern ließen. Unter seinen Mitstudirenden und Bekannten waren Savigny und Melchior Kirchhofer (s. A. D. B. XVI, 11), an den er sich vorzüglich anschloß. 1797?1799 begleitete er den Vater, der unter den politischen Wirren der Zeit Bünden verließ,|nach Zürich, Augsburg, Ludwigsburg, und kehrte mit demselben erst im Sommer 1799 nach Chur auf den Landsitz daselbst zurück, der jetzt den Namen Bothmar trägt. Hier traf den 22jährigen jungen Mann im Jahre 1800 das schwere Geschick, bei einem Bade in der Pleßur von einer gänzlichen Lähmung der linken Seite befallen zu werden, die ihn bis zum Lebensende nicht mehr verließ. Keine Bemühungen einheimischer noch fremder Aerzte vermochten das Uebel zu heben. Um so schöner leuchtete die edle Kraft, mit welcher er, unbeirrt, ernster wissenschaftlicher Arbeit, auch übernommenen öffentlichen Pflichten, geistigem Verkehre mit vielen ausgezeichneten Männern und einer heitern Geselligkeit in den Kreisen sich hingab, die der Vater um ihn zu versammeln bemüht war. Als fleißiger Mitarbeiter an der Zeitschrift der bündnerischen gemeinnützigen Gesellschaft, dem "Neuen Sammler" (1805?1812), als Mitglied des Kantonschulraths, vorzüglich als Geschichtsforscher machte sich S. um seine Heimath verdient, bis ihn eine rasch verlaufende Brustkrankheit anfangs 1817 seinem Wirkungskreise entriß. Seine historischen Arbeiten behandeln, in Monographien, die ältere Geschichte von Graubünden bis zum Jahre 1471; sie erschienen ? nicht vollständig ? im J. 1834 als "Hinterlassene Schriften von J. U. v. S.-S."; 1858 aber in Verbindung mit inhaltreichen Zusätzen aus seinen Papieren und einem Wiederabdruck seiner Aufsätze im "Neuen Sammler" in einer von Conradin v. Mohr veranstalteten Gesammtausgabe. Unter den letztern Arbeiten verdient besonders das schöne biographische Denkmal Beachtung, welches S. im J. 1809 dem als Arzt im Seminar von Haldenstein und Marschlins, im Bade Pfävers und in Chur, als Naturforscher, als Stifter der gemeinnützigen Gesellschaft, um Bünden sehr verdienten Dr. Joh.
