French manuscript on the negotiation strategy of the French with the British on India.
1778. Sewn with two small chords in the left upper and bottom corner. Folio. First draft of an autograph manuscript in French with erasures and corrections probably written by a diplomat or strategist concerning the causes of Britains defeat of France in India during the Seven Years War 1756-1763 and analysing different ways to restore France to power on Indian soil by an alliance with the sultan Haider Ali Khan 1722-1782 who ruled Mysore and a large part of southern India and was one of the greatest enemies of the British East India Company. According to the unidentified diplomat who wrote this text Haider Ali Khan was the only one who was able to defeat the British or challenge their supremacy in India. In this manuscript he describes the best strategy not only to join Haider Ali Khan but also to negotiate with the British people on profitable Indian trade for both parties.Slightly worn and frayed around the edges first page slightly dust-soiled but still an interesting autograph manuscript in good condition. unknown

40 Stationary Hospital Harfluer France/ Ward 8 St. John Military Hosp. Woking Surrey England: n.p. 1924. Autograph Album. Good. Oblong autograph album. Approx. 9" x 7.5". Album has dark colored soft padded leather covers with "Autographs" signed in gilt on the front cover. Leather dentelles inside. Decorative end sheets. The right front end sheet was mostly removed. Repaired. New dark blue mulberry paper spine added. Front and rear hinges repaired with tissue. The owner worked as a Nurse in the hospital ward at 40 Stationary Hospital Harfluer France and at Ward 8 St. John Military Hosp. Woking Surrey. Her inscription is written on the front paste down - "Miss Ethel E. J. Clarke "The Grove" 41 Moore St. Worcester." 56 pages of this album were used for original art inscriptions autographs and verse. 27 of the pages have illustrated with original art. One page has a cut out racist cartoon character of black children. Another page has a photograph of a soldier in uniform. The majority of the inscriptions and art work are dated 1918 and 1919. A handful of 1924 inscriptions located towards the back. No other dates recorded. Several inscriptions from soldiers include their home place and regimental unit inside. Some of the names regiments inscribed include: <br /> "L.C. Tearae "Tank Corps"; <br /> "Pte. R.C.J. Hervey 21035 23. Batt. Bisley Camp; <br /> Pte. B. Anderson South African Scottish Barracks Woking Surrey"; <br /> "Pte R. Grenadier Guards" with a photograph;<br /> a drawing titled "A Medical Armistice" at 40th Stationary Hospital. Harfluer France by Henry G. Bredle 324 Siege Battery R.G.A.;<br /> <br /> Several more names and places are recorded inside. Several of the original sketches are very good. The interior of the Album is in very good condition. One wonders whether the republication of the charter in 1758 may have been occasioned by the execution of Stafford linen draper Richard Vaughan following his conviction for the forgery of a Bank of England note; the first conviction of its kind. Bank of England: 28 August 1852. Sent from the Bank of England on 28 August 1852. 4pp. 12mo. Bifolium. In poor condition with a section torn away from the foot of both leaves with loss of text including the writer's signature. The letter begins: 'Dear Sir When you receive this your Press &c. will be well on its way to Edinburgh. When it arrives do not attempt to take it out of its case but have the case placed upon a Table and take it to pieces from about the machine leaving the machine standing upon the bottom of the Case - until its own bench is made when you will push the machine with its mahogany board in upon it.' He discusses the machines at the Stamp Office and goes into technical detail pin die and rollers. The letter concludes: 'There is also a small key hanging on one of the Guide Springs for unlocking the slide for disconnecting the Register. 'Remarks upon a late discours of free thinking' des bedeutenden klassischen Philologen und Rektors in Cambridge, Richard Bentley (1662-1742), erschienen zusammen mit kritischen Bemerkungen zu A. Collins durch den Übersetzer Armand Boisbeleau de la Chapelle. Hirsching bezeichnet das Werk als die "wichtigste und gelehrteste Schrift" Bentleys. Grundsätzlich dürfte außerhalb Englands der französische Titel bekannter gewesen sein als das englische Original. Das seinerzeit vielzitierte, in zahlreichen Biographien und Bibliogrphien genannte und in den Bibliotheken gut vertretene, wird im Handel nur selten angeboten. The Album shows with visits to Edinburgh Loch Lomond and its "S.S.Rob Roy - Steamboat with Pier and Ben Venue Loch Katrine Callander Bridge and Ben Ledi The Trossachs then moves to Hastings and later shows many rare photographs of Cambridge University and Oxford University including Trinity College and Magdalen College etc. see complete list below. Fantastic Album which also shows one magnificent photograph of Stonehenge and one of "The Major Oak" in Sherwood Forest in the year 1885.

Spine with trivial wear and a bit toned but generally a very bright copy of this pamphlet reporting on the condition of the Catholic church in the United States. In addition to the major cities like Boston New York and Philadelphia there is material related to Bardstown KY Charleston SC Mobile AL New Orleans and Cincinnati. In an appendix are 5 tables on 2 folding leaves that enumerate Catholic seminaries societies universities including those with little or no Catholic professors and more. Fairly early information on some of these locations. Remarkably scarce only 2 institutions recording ownership according to OCLC. Stiftungs-Bureau unknown

1st Edition. Original Paper Wrappers. 8vo. 19 pages ; 21cm. In English and Hebrew on opposite sides. Original 50th anniversary service from the Central Synagogue on Great Portland Street in London. The Central Synagogue was established in the West End because many Jews had moved there during Queen Victorias reign. It was destroyed in the 1941 London Blitz. OCLC lists only 1 copy worldwide (HUC) . None in England. Paper have some wear and a small tear at bottom. Good condition. (BR-11-13)
